A career as a train driver

My handwriting is pretty poor as well. I've been out of education for a fair few years and always written only in capitals since leaving. I did all mine in capital letters and that was fine, it's the content and the spelling/punctuation that are important.

A career as a train driver

So you have the criteria based interview left? I assume you have done your homework on the questions you will be asked? Don't under-estimate it, it's not as relaxed as the managers interview. That being said, if you have put in some planning time already in my opinion it is the easier interview...

A career as a train driver

As long as you're pretty altogether fitness-wise the medical should be fine. If what you are saying is that you still have one of the interviews to complete (which I would assume is the managers interview), then it's anyone's guess whether you've got the job. It will depend how you perform in...

    Southern Trainee Driver Selhurst

My understanding of the word mandatory is 'essential or necessary' The advert reads: Mandatory Requirements: Must meet all entry criteria demanded by Southern for train driving. Must be capable of communicating effectively by all means available. Competent in knowledge of...

South West Trains - Assessment day pt 1

Hi, From what I understood when I was there, the speed you are processed is determined in part by which depot you are applying for and how hard they are finding it to fill the slots on the courses for that depot. I had to wait about 3 months for all three days to be finished. Talking to...

    SWT Trainee Driver

There are still the same amount of dials, but the readings become a lot more subtle and a little more confusing than at the start of the test. I honestly wouldn't worry, just keep your head down and focus. It is possible to finish them all in the time, but it's not a fail if you don't.

    SWT Trainee Driver

I found it pretty similar. They only difference really is that the actual test starts growing in complexity when you get about half way through, where as the practice material is all pretty much the same.

    SWT Trainee Driver

It's certainly part of the assessment day for SWT, not sure if anyone else uses it.

    SWT Trainee Driver

I found the first day ok, I still have the second day to go though. As I understand it the verbal communication test is all about being able to communicate information quickly and clearly, including all the necessary information. As you would on a radio or phone. The way it was explained to...

    SWT Trainee Driver

Hi, I went last month, they don't do mechanical comprehension any more. First day is Colour blindness test, Group Bourdon and Trainability. Second day is verbal communication and reaction test. Good luck Oh, forgot to say, also on the second day is the structured interview, but you only get...

    4 Day Week

It's such a hard decision :-? From what you are all saying a lot of it seems to be mind over matter. As far as the physical demands of shift work it seems that everyone falls into their own pattern that works for them. I don't think I'll ever know 100% whether it will work for me. I...

    4 Day Week

Cheers Greenback and Driver. That's made me feel a bit better! :) I know I'm probably coming across as really lame , I just want to make the right decision. Thanks again for the advice.

    4 Day Week

Very useful, and much appreciated, thank you:) Much as I want this career, and I do really want it! I just want to make sure that I am still going to have a 'life' as well. I don't want to end up losing my quality of life because I just can't adjust to the shifts. I'm not one for going out...

    4 Day Week

You're right, that sounds a cracking pattern of shifts. Sunday is part of the working week at SWT, which I don't mind too much to be honest. I can't say I've ever worked a 4 day week ever! Looking forward to it! :D

    4 Day Week

Ah, ok, makes sense now, thanks :) I'm not sure what I'd prefer out of those 2. Having almost a week off every 3-4 weeks does sound nice, but then finding time to see my partner who would still be working office hours would be nice too! Cheers for all the answers!

    4 Day Week

How do you mean by 'weeks of rest days'? Do you mean having a whole 7 days off but then working more days for the other 3 weeks for example?
