London Euston - late advertising of services

There was an old guy at Liverpool St who used to do this regularly. Miserable as sin, took absolute delight in despatching as early as he possibly could, usually best part of a minute before scheduled departure, while passengers ran for the train. He particularly liked it when the rear train...

    Max speed...

Wonderful reply, exactly what I was hoping for! Cheers. 1656157671 Which is probably why it's a good job we have speedometers fitted to things!

    Max speed...

I have a question which I'm sure someone here will easily answer... Is it possible for a regular passenger train (pendolino in this case) to exceed the max line running speed? I ask because we were on a late running service yesterday which made up about 15 minutes of lost time. We seemed to...

    Class 315 Withdrawals

Well here we are and 315s are still very much in use. Three years after the Elizabeth line should have opened and we're still using rolling stock from the 80s. On a rainy day (like today) dodging the occasional indoor downpour from a leaking roof adds to the entertainment of commuting...

    Class 315 Withdrawals

It is incredible that they manage to make such old unites look relatively decent - and maintain them so they turn up more regularly and punctually than any previous operator. Concession v Franchise? It's certainly telling that rush hour at Brentwood sees almost exclusively 315s still rather than...

    Class 345 progress

Hmmm... What did I say a few days ago? http://londonist.com/london/transport/delays-rolling-out-crossrail-train-on-liverpool-street-routes?

    Class 345 progress

You must be exceptionally lucky. I'm not the only passenger to notice the advertised "11" trains are mysteriously missing in service...

    Class 345 progress

Looks very much like all of these are out of passenger service at the moment. Would be interesting to know why...

    Class 315 Withdrawals

Yeah - if anyone knows a way of working out which services are going to be 345 that'd be nice to know! :)

    Class 345 progress

I'm guessing you don't do a lot of commuting?! Either that or you're about 3 foot tall.

    Class 345 progress

Once linked with the Northern Line, Liverpool St will have that link regardless of high or low level, won't it? Bit like Bank / Monument. A long walk, but the connection will be there.

    Shenfield/Brentwood

Yes, and the volume of schoolchildren in the morning / afternoon is considerable - lots of kids headed for Chelmsford / Ingatestone / Shenfield schools from suburban London. Will be quite a challenge for a lot of people. As usual Brentwood / Shenfield the poor relation on the Crossrail line.

Wabtec Awarded Contract For £60M Class 321 Refurbishment Project.

Looks nicely done. Let's hope it eventually makes it out!

    Reasons for cancellations and delays

This was nice from TfLRail last week: "8:10 Liverpool Street to Shenfield due 08:53 will only stop at Ilford between Stratford & Romford due to planning issues"

Greater Anglia Good and Bad Discussion

Quite. And Ian's abuse of anyone who dares to disagree with him.

Greater Anglia Good and Bad Discussion

Exactly - that's the second time I've seen someone say that GEML will get new trains in the next franchise without any evidence whatsoever to suggest it'll happen.

Greater Anglia Good and Bad Discussion

I'd be interested to know what evidential basis you have for that, bearing in mind that there's nothing (that I can see) which suggests it in the franchise prospectus? It strikes me that the only real hope you have is that on the basis the franchise is 8-11 years, even the finest re-furb...

Greater Anglia Good and Bad Discussion

Yes - I saw one of them last week - not nearly as bad as the photos made them look and a marked improvement on what was there before.

Greater Anglia Good and Bad Discussion

This is the kind of thing they're really bad at. I don't get it. There seems to be a culture endemic throughout the company of assuming the customer is trying to rip them off. Instead of applying common sense, and fair revenue protection policies, they have a number of jobsworth aggressive...
