I noticed something about the LED signals around Wolverhampton. A lot have these black plates affixed to the side of the signal head.
Does anyone know what the purpose is? To block light from distracting from the signal aspect I guess?
Please move to an existing thread if there is one.
I found this tweet about 168 329 which is starting testing as a hybrid. I don't know too much about the project.

When i passed today, on the Fareham line, I noticed that most of the trackwork on the North side just inside the entrance to the works has been lifted, is this going to be relaid as was or are they changing the track layout? and if so why?
Just before the sharp corner under the A3024 exiting Southampton eastwards there is was looks like a new covered up banner repeater, It's been covered for a long time, when will it be in use? Or is it something else?
Why was the line between Fareham and Botley never doubled? It was built with double track infrastructure and the line from Eastleigh to Botley is double so it seems strange to leave a gap. Surely after 170 odd years it would have been done, it seems like its just attracting delays.
On both the roads and the railways vehicles travel on the left but why do drivers sit on the left in trains and on the right in cars?
I'm assuming there's an obvious answer that will make me feel pretty stupid haha
I have noticed SWT stations on the Fareham to southampton line (not sure about other places) have had SDO signs put up on car stop marker posts, are Desiros's getting SDO soon then?

Would a ticket inspector really do this? (I've never heard of this person btw, so much for celeb)
Travelling up the M1 on Thursday night I went past two lorries carrying London underground C stock carriages, anyone know where they're going? I assume its for scrap.
At my local station Fareham the ticket barriers are rarely in use, it seems a waste of money to buy them but hardly use them, surely people will learn to travel when they're not in operation if they don't want to pay.
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/P92268/2013/07/17/advanced I believe this is the VSOE but why is it cancelled? I know it says a request by the customer but what does that mean?
Why weren't they built just that little bit longer (10m) so they could accommodate 5 car class 444's, and surely it would be easier to extend it than install selective door opening?
Between Shawford and Eastleigh today (26/4/13) at about 16:30 I think I saw a class 458 going northbound, i think on the slow line. Any explanations? had it just come from Eastleigh works or something?
