Did you buy anything from Collectors Corner?

I dragged my mum there once when I was about 13, on a rare visit to London. As a 13 year old it seemed like the most amazing place. I think I bought some depot stickers! I had more fun at Swindon Works. I saved my pennies and bought two flamecuts, a 46 and a 40, I spoke to a really lovely...

Stations you don't want to go to/be at

Sadly.. Paignton.. the station is an absolute dump...which gives you an indication of what you are letting yourself in for should you choose not to head straight onto the steam railway.. The town is a complete dump.. its full of druggies and chavs in shellsuits and fat birds in primark legging...

    Suggestions for Dawlish avoiding route(s)

assuming the true South West starts at the Somerset border how is Plymouth a gateway? And what industry? Absolutely agree that maintaining a rail link into West Devon and Cornwall but the pro Plymouth brigade seem to have put a Disneyesque spin on the city.. The fact that the airport couldn't...

    Suggestions for Dawlish avoiding route(s)

How exactly is Plymouth so important? No doubt that a rail service HAS to be maintained into West Devon and Cornwall, no disputing the massive blow to this region by the line being closed but comparing Plymouth to somewhere like Manchester as a previous commentator did is crazy... very little...

    Suggestions for Dawlish avoiding route(s)

what a legend.. well said.. The only bit of that i would question is the true cost to our region.. you have to remember its not just about ticket sales.. the knock on for local business is huge.. and hard to put into a true figure... you have to take into account everything from the lost...

    Suggestions for Dawlish avoiding route(s)

Not at all friend.. its a fair suggestion.. stations at Cullompton and Wellington is a wonderful idea... that had to happen.. But an avoiding line to miss out the Cullompton to Exeter section wouldnt be needed if the rivers were dredged.. most of the streams and gullys are silted up, there is...

    Suggestions for Dawlish avoiding route(s)

Absolutely.. the benefits for the region will be huge.. But im not convinced that the route is the best option as a diversionary route, but without doubt the most achievable

    Suggestions for Dawlish avoiding route(s)

I am amazed at the comments about a Cowley Bridge advoiding line, a chord from Rewe, a Dawlish Advoiding Line, DAL.. very catchy.. tunnelling under Haldon Hill etc etc.. None of this will ever happen.. when the discussion about reopening the Okehampton line first started it was established...

    Suggestions for Dawlish avoiding route(s)

The true cost of the line being closed is not just about trains not running... Money is being lost by many many bsuinesses that are not associated with the railway, the assumption is that the only money not being spent is on train tickets and the rare bit of freight that uses the line.. ...
