COVID happened and the service was eventually abandoned before it even began with all staff being made redundant. ASLEF worked hard to get the Drivers jobs at other companies within the Arriva group but I'm not sure what happened to the other grades.
The earliest book on is 04:35 and latest book off is 00:40 with turns between 5 and 10 hours in length. Initial core route is Manchester Airport to Carlisle via Chorley which is where you would gain your practical handling hours and once qualified you will add the rest of the routes to your card...
Some of the Northern hired 185s were even crewed by Transpennine Drivers and Guards. There were also instances of mixed crews ie TPE Driver and Northern Guard or vice versa.
When I first learned south of Preston about 18 years ago Balshaw Lane Junction was 50mph down from 75mph on the Up Slow (it was actually 50 in both directions). I was told PN14 couldn't show a green aspect as a way to control the speed of trains approaching the junction. When junction was...
My company doesn't specify what we can or can't use for a mug and I've used open topped mugs without an problem. Depending on what you'll be driving you would have to think about where your mug will be placed (does the cab have cup holders?) - if it's on the desk near controls then a lid is a...
Safety Brands are very comfortable with a non slip sole and steel toe, the only downside being they aren't fully waterproof. They're about £35 and mine were delivered within 48hrs.
They aren't limited to mechanical signalling areas. I work exclusively over TCB lines and pass quite a few Distant/Repeater signals controlled on my travels. You can identify them by the letter R, RR or triangle on the number plate.
A Co-Acting signal shows the exact aspect the main head is displaying and are used at locations where the sighting of the signal is obscured ( next to each other platform 14 Manchester Piccadilly, platform 4 and Up Main where Co-Acting head is on the floor at Lancaster for example). A Banner...
That's a fair guess and needing to clear the message wasn't fully understood on our CAF units for a while. We only use the Messages section to change the final destination or when the headcode doesn't work but even now sometimes they'll run round with the wrong destination showing but internal...
It's telling you that the Passenger Alarm Device at door F has been pressed. Sometimes even a light press is enough to set the notifications off without actually setting the alarm off and applying the brakes and all the crew needs to do is reset the button. It should also show on the TCMS where...
Which company has such a ridiculously restrictive commute time especially using public transport? I've never seen a vacancy listing like that, the usual is 45-60 minutes using your own transport.
Certainly is normal to do 6 day blocks at my TOC as the link has to average 35hrs over the cycle. Some weeks you will work fewer hours than 35hrs and others you will work more.
There is also an interesting somewhat non standard arrangement spacing Carstairs on the Down. Trains routed to the South curve and ultimately Edinburgh can receive the usual flashing yellows approach but trains can be routed to the Down Passenger Loop opposite the station with a steady YY...
Random unannounced D&A screening is a fact of life for safety critical staff on the railway. Doesn't matter if you've done 1 day or 40 years service you can be selected at any time.
RailUK was launched on 6th June 2005 - so we've hit 20 years being the UK's most popular railway community! Read more and celebrate this milestone with us in this thread!
