    Waterloo and City line sponsorship

Can I revisit a question I approached earlier? How long did it take the Boris bikes to change colour? I think the Barclays to Santander switch was fairly quick, but I'm not a daily visitor to London, so from my perspective it may have been a faster change. Was that sponsorship change quicker...

    Waterloo and City line sponsorship

Tuber Eats... Full line sponsorship. I guess there's been precedent with the Emirates Cabl- wait, it's not called that now. The IFS Cloud Cable Car, is it? People got upset about the "circle to search" line... If they do renaming, it will have a lot of downsides. If the sponsorship means...

2024 Tube Stock (Siemens Inspiro London)

But again, the passenger is not the customer. They aren't the ones buying/leasing the train. And to preempt comments about them paying for it with their fares, they aren't the ones signing the contract

The customer requirement is to shift more people

    Speeding liability question

Sorry, I did mean to say "no". Juggling too many things at once when posting again. And I'm not asking about any specific incident - just a hypothetical inspired by the other thread.

    Speeding liability question

A thought prompted by the BSR thread. Driver asks if a BSR has been lifted. Told yes. Drives at line speed. Is found to have been in excess of the limit in place at the time So, here's a scenario I'm curious about... Driver is aware of a temporary limit. Driver is on the first train of the...

    South Western Railway nationalisation time.

Not sure if this is the right place, but... I am watching a YouTube video. Every 90 seconds, the exact same SWR advert plays. Seen it before, but nothing like this much. Surprised that they are aggressively pushing old adverts at the moment Edit... Two SWR adverts. "Chickago" and "Sandy we've...

2024 Tube Stock (Siemens Inspiro London)

Wow! A real world example of octal in use. I thought it only existed to make JavaScript do annoying things, like parsing a user input of "010" as 8 after the initial zero in a box wasn't removed and there was no explicit "this is base 10" specified, causing a lot of confusion and frustration...

2024 Tube Stock (Siemens Inspiro London)

Still, won't a 9 bit number only allow up to 511?

    DLR B23 Stock (CAF Inneo)

Ok, that one might make sense. And explain why a change would be painful... If the carriage number in a unit is represented as a 2 bit number as part of a complex data type then it could only have 4. And to extend that could mean having to rejig a lot of stuff. The 80s and 90s were a great...

    DLR B23 Stock (CAF Inneo)

Aren't the other trains still sort of fixed length? Each unit isn't going to change length? So what is the difference between 2 or 3 X metre units coupled versus 1 Y metre unit not coupled? Or is this where the bodge comes in, if things HAVE to be run in multiple, and entering the B23 stock...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

There's some irony or something to a "Coming soon!" message stuck to the side of a train that is "coming soon" for many years

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

    444. And it will almost certainly hit 450 and 458. Hopefully not 701 And REALLY hopefully not 4584 or 4585

    Examples of unique level crossings?

Isn't it "telescopic" because it has multiple sections sliding at different rates? Though the sections aren't contained inside each other, "telescopic" describes that multiple motion better than "sliding", which could be taken to mean a single leaf? And when trying to explain in simplest terms...

    Examples of unique level crossings?

That's the one! I'm glad that my vague memory dump was good enough! I didn't think it was pump - I remember seeing the request instructions when I'd looked it up before. So, the question is whether that is unique?

    Examples of unique level crossings?

I passed one a few times when I was doing my driving course in Oxfordshire. Or, we were based out of there but traveled around a lot. But a lot of it was within the Thames Valley area... Anyway... I did look it up later. I can't remember where it was now. It was full barrier with a skirt, and...

    Even more announcements on SWR

I don't think the issue is there being announcements, but how loud they are? I have found that the quiet coach, when it is quiet, gets a little irritating with the announcements. "ah, nice and quiet... Peaceful... I think I might doze off for a- SAFETY INFORMATION IS DISPLAYED IN ALL CARRIAGES"

    Even more announcements on SWR

Perhaps the volume could be toned down a little in a quiet coach?

Should Out of Court Settlements Use the Full Fare or Difference in Fares

I've said on a similar thread that it does feel like the company is getting two bites of the apple. They get the income from the incorrect fare, then the income of the most expensive fare available. You bought an off-peak railcard return instead of an off-peak return? We'll charge you for an...

Weird ticket checks on platform by Great Northern staff

I don't understand the RailUK obsession with getting to stations unreasonably early.
