They've recently started issuing these things at my local station in Devon.
I can't say I'm a great fan as they don't fit in my CCST ticket wallet without folding.
Are all GWR stations swapping over to these? Other TOCs too?
Apart from:
those too young to drive;
those too old to drive;
those who haven't passed their test;
those who can't afford a car/learn to drive (or both);
those who don't want a car;
those who correctly regard the car as much less safe than rail travel.
I agree that transport policy in the past...
But only 13.5 miles by train on a day the Ffestiniog Railway is running....
Edit: aplologies to Krokodil whose earlier post making this point I managed to miss.
Different Cotswold Line from that refered to by the OP!
At one time the term "Cotswold Line" only refered to the Hereford - Malvern - Worcester - Oxford line. Hence the Cotswold Line Promotion Group (CLPG) is the rail users' group for that line.
Later, at some stage GWR (the modern...
The use of three car 158s on the Barnstaple line -they replaced class 143 Pacers- seems to have brought strong growth on the route; particuarly to Exeter in the mornings & back in the late afternoon. Trains are often full with some standing.
With the 158s due to leave the line, anyone know if...
Plympton has a frequent bus service to/from Plymouth but it takes a long time; rail would be so much quicker, and on journeys from the east (i.e. most of the UK) you currently have to go through it non-stop on a train, only to take the 30 minute bus journey from the city centre -the railway...
Don't forget that GWR and all the other TOCs that manage stations are only ever tennants - Network Rail still own the station.
The landlord is responsible for major maintenance surely?
In any case, Network Rail are responsible for things like roofs & canopies at every station, whoever manages...
The only meaning I know of for "chain guards" is the cover over a bicycle chain that stops the bottom of your trouser legs getting caught in the chain and/or being covered in grease.
Clearly, that's not the meaning the OP is refering to! Can you describe it further @Questions ?
Presumably they're OK because they're not a fixed structure.
Or a recognition that they're there to aid boarding, not to get in the way of it like planters would. Steps to help getting on & off at a low platform would be pretty useless if they had to be six feet away from the train!
Handborough on the Cotswold Line had the spelling slightly changed in the mid '90s to Hanborough.
This is closer to the actual name of the village in which it is located - Long Hanborough.
RailUK was launched on 6th June 2005 - so we've hit 20 years being the UK's most popular railway community! Read more and celebrate this milestone with us in this thread!
