Stations not centrally sited where previous central ones were closed

Yes, but the current station is highly convenient for the National Railway Museum, which is the important part :D

Stations not centrally sited where previous central ones were closed

Oh very few things are unique. In both Leicester and Nottingham the driver is a major shopping centre development on the opposite side of town from where the station is. Ironically in Nottingham that's built on the site of Nottingham Victoria Railway Station.

As a passenger what problems/incidents do you report to station staff/TOCs/Network Rail?

Unattended luggage on the underground. I'm paranoid about that (but not anywhere else - I doubt anyone is going to bomb Todmorden station).

Stations not centrally sited where previous central ones were closed

Leicester is odd because the City Centre has moved away from the sole remaining Railway Station over time. Most other places the City Centre moves towards the transportation.

    Delice De France, Leeds station

I forgot the change "it" to "they" when I changed the sentence from "It's a Northern Uniform, but not a Northern Employee". But yes, I regard the temp staff Northern hire from whichever security company it is as poorly trained thugs. The worst case was one that wouldn't accept West Yorkshire...

    Delice De France, Leeds station

Just because it's wearing a Northern uniform, doesn't mean it's actually a properly trained Northern employee.

    Delice De France, Leeds station

Leeds is an interchange station. Lots of the people passing through neither start nor end their journeys in Leeds, and getting outside the barriers and back in again can be a PITA due to the various poorly trained private security thugs.

How do members of The Cabinet travel on the train?

Being a member of parliament is pretty much the definition of "Senior Management" for the UK, really.

How do members of The Cabinet travel on the train?

It came through Calderdale during the Tour De France Grand Depart last year. I remember because they chose to run the train ECS along the valley, exacerbating the congestion problems on the day, rather than take it along through Standedge.

    Semaphore signals

An (early) example of the fallibility of Lower Quadrant Signals would be the Abbots Ripton Rail Disaster of 1876 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abbots_Ripton_rail_accident

    Is Knighton station unique?

I seem to recall there's a reopening plan for a station on the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire Border with one platform in each county.

    Northern's STM Security overkill

Even if you "play by the rules", Northern's hired thugs at the outlying stations are rude, intimidatory and don't actually understand the rules of the railway. I actually had to quote Railway bylaws at a pair of them a few months back. Response: "The rules are what I say they are, mate"...

Lines That Have Closed Since 1970

I never understood why it was closed. It'd be a really useful diversionary line.

Reasons provided for delays to train services

I don't think Northern Rail bother announcing the reason for any delay shorter than 5 minutes to its customers. Too frequent for them to give a damn, I suspect. The standard Northern announcement for someone being hit by a train is "Due to Trespass on the line"

    Northern/TPE Invitation to Tender published

Apologies if this has already been said, but. Am I correct in thinking that the requirement for the 120 new carriages that "They must be designed with future demand... in mind" more or less require IPEMU, as additional DMUs simply won't have the demand over the expected lifespan of a multiple unit?

    Uses for redundant Class 67s.

It's interesting (to me, at least) that the "multiple" aspect of the multiple units is the bit that is becoming an artefact. When do Pendolinos ever work in multiple? The designation seems to have moved from meaning "can work in multiple couplings" to "is powered by multiple vehicles within the...

    Todmorden Curve

Typical stupidity over the boundaries of the WYPTE zones. it's only £7.60 if you buy a Hebden Bridge to Burnley Manchester Road Ticket & "change" at Todmorden.

Why does Pontefract have three stations?

All of which is historical. There's literally no reason for all three to remain open now. Maidstone Barracks wasn't ever anywhere near an actual barracks, IIRC - it was just open to keep the troops away from civilians. The sensible thing to do would be to move all rail provision in Maidstone...

Why does Pontefract have three stations?

A much better question is why Maidstone has three stations.
