Northern Conductor recruitment last January at St James stadium Newcastle

The salary isn’t lower, nothing has changed there - you may have seen adverts for west based conductors that are slightly higher (just under £1000 more). East and west have different t&c’s which is the reason for this. The training time also hasn’t changed, as you have applied for the North...

Drop Out Rate for Trainee Train Drivers

A driver gets 64% in an assessment and him eventually going is harsh? There are set processes, he will have been rebriefed and reassessed, if he still can’t meet the standard what do you think they should do? If it’s the online type of assessment I think it is it’s a shocking score and he...

What were you before you joined the railway?

All sorts - Bar/Retail, call centre, then went into training. Fancied a change and the railway always appealed to me as I love train travel. Started as a conductor and now work training new conductors. Has its challenges and we are very busy but love my job.

    Perseverance

Great post - I applied for a Conductor position with FTPE and passed everything bar one MMI question - I was totally gutted and kind of walked away from it all for a bit and just thought it wasn't for me. I ended up applying to Northern as a conductor a year later, was successful and am...

Trainee Train Driver - Northern Rail, Leeds

I'm surprised this was advertised externally at all - the last 2 Sheffield driver advertised vacancies have only been internal (over the last 3/4 months). They must have just fallen short on internal applications and needed a few more hence such a tight time frame over Xmas day.

Northern Rail Trainee conductor Leeds interview

I'm guessing it will go to top scores on interviews/assessments that's why they've waited to get this weeks assessments out the way. Saw a few smartly dressed nervous looking people milling around outside on Tuesday so they've definitly been doing assessments this week. I was in for my...

    Sheffield-Dore: Additional Track Possible?

My understanding is that if the Tram/Train to Rotherham is successful they will look more closely into potentially rolling it out on that line. Not sure if it would mean additional track or just the sharing of that track. If hs2 is to be from Meadowhall end of town, there needs to be a way...

    Talent pools!!....

Yeap i agree with you there. How was it communicated to you initially? Ideally they should check in at least every 12 weeks just to say you are still in the pool, we potentially have X happening whenever.
