Keir Starmer and the Labour Party

Labour shelved the Green New Deal because the country's financial health is in a poorer position compared to when it was first proposed. I'm a big supporter of this policy, but I'd prefer Starmer and Reeves were honest about what we can and can't afford now, not after entering government.

    First South Yorkshire: General Discussion

Thanks for that. I've also heard 63401-20 are expected at Olive Grove soon.

    First South Yorkshire: General Discussion

I've been informed 35261/285 are to be repainted prior to entering service, still no confirmation on how many StreetDecks are expected.

What are your first impressions of the new TGV-M.

I like the look of the units, but I think the livery is very bland.

    Disused Blacon Railway Station

Blacon was on the Chester to Connah's Quay line, which joined with the Borderlands line at a triangle junction just north of Hawarden. When the station was first opened, direct trains ran to Wrexham (via Shotton) and Bidston, the latter service being extended to Seacombe in the late 1890s. That...

    Disused Blacon Railway Station

I was speaking to my friend's Dad about this a while ago, as he moved to Blacon with his wife in the early 1960s while the line was still open to passengers. He recalls the station being well used right up until it was closed, so I would say the "economic modernisation plan" is the reason why we...

Motorway Driving - too many idiots

It'd be good if we could have one thread about driving that doesn't involve bashing BMW drivers. It's an outdated and lazy stereotype.

Merseyrail legacy fleet updates (Class 507/508)

Looks like it's the end for my namesake unit, according to reports elsewhere. I'm glad I made the trip over on Saturday evening for a final ride, even if it meant getting home at rather the wrong side of midnight.

Merseyrail legacy fleet updates (Class 507/508)

Thanks, I'm glad it's not just me being biased! As for 001, I can see why the preservation group want it, but I'm of the view one of 016, 018 or 029 would be a more sensible choice. It's just the way it is unfortunately, the same thing happened with 002. Hopefully 021 is out again before it...

    First South Yorkshire: General Discussion

According to my source at Olive Grove, 35261/3/4, 35270/3/4/9 and 35283 have arrived from Leeds so far. Departing from the South Yorkshire fleet are the remaining Enviro400s, with six stood down pending cascade as of yesterday.

Merseyrail legacy fleet updates (Class 507/508)

At the risk of being accused of bias, I'm not sure 014 can be considered better than 021, particularly since the latter's power fault has been repaired. It was much improved when I sampled it on Thursday, and is certainly better than the likes of 003 (what's happened there?), 014 and 033.

is it even possible to reform a Class 508?

There is one surviving unit (508212, ex 508133) which could theoretically be preserved, but I very much doubt it'll happen unfortunately. No plans for 507001 to be mainline certified, as far as I'm aware.

Merseyrail penalty - have cctv proof but appeal is getting rejected

I'm aware of what that lift is sometimes used for, I'm just sick to the back teeth of people playing the "I'm Scouse" card when it suits them.

Merseyrail penalty - have cctv proof but appeal is getting rejected

Considering how you recently accused the city of Liverpool of having a "victim mentality", I don't think you're in a position to be playing that card. I'm from Liverpool and while I don't live there any more either, I'm proud of my heritage and those who still live there who are working hard to...

Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party.

Steve Tuckwell has started a petition to open a new fish and chip shop in his Uxbridge and South Ruislip constituency, after voting against one in 2019. At this point, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Who does he think he's going to hand the petition to...

Isle of Man Steam Packet Co

Looks much nicer compared to the last time I was on Manannan. I still rate its predecessors Snaefell and Viking higher though, much more pleasant to travel on in comparison.

    ZEBRA 2 Discussion

I'm very pleased to see the Liverpool City Region's bid was successful, hopefully the introduction of whichever type is chosen is a much more positive experience. https://www.liverpoolcityregion-ca.gov.uk/news/funding-secured-to-bring-dozens-of-new-electric-buses-to-liverpool-city-region
