West Midlands Class 323 - the final countdown

I might be remembering wrong but I think on Gemini it had some a bit of work Monday morning but went back to the Depot so I can only guess it had a fault fixed at the depot.

    Northern Unit Refurbishments

That'll be 212 and 239 since the middle of last week :). All the details are in this thread https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/west-midlands-class-323-the-final-countdown.256892/

Wigan-Bolton electrification. Construction updates only please

You'd guess even if they didn't want any extra towards Wallgate you are going to need a few stanchions just to hold up / anchor the whole construction above and in the vicinity of the station junction Progress seems to be coming on nicely now

    Northern Unit Refurbishments

150124 is on 5E12 0942 Newton Heath to Heaton this morning passing through Newcastle around 1258

    Southport Platform Extensions

You'd imagine it's just standard driving practice to stop away from the buffers unless you absolutely have to. I can't imagine there's anything nefarious about it. If it's an 8 car it'll be up there.

West Midlands Class 323 - the final countdown

All the ex WM units are still in the usual livery. 212 did a couple of trips to Blackpool this morning (or it was scheduled to) but was empty carrying train crew only. 239 is now the other unit at Preston. 208 and 220 are out today in passenger service.

June 2024 reopening of the line between Clitheroe and Hellifield for passenger trains

Route learning is happening now! 150106 today is providing the traction having detached from 2N92 at 0912 (at Blackburn), doing two trips to Ribblehead and back and reattaching to the 2K60 1420 back to Headbolt Lane for the rest of the day Yesterday 150102 doing the same seen here taking the...

Wigan-Bolton electrification. Construction updates only please

I was googling the plans but I can't find anything. I think the last big push was 20 years ago. I think it's too high up to use the current NW platforms with a curve. I think the 2004 plans were platforms on both the Southport and Kirkby line with a walking connection back up to NW station...

Wigan-Bolton electrification. Construction updates only please

Of course the dream plan is to create "one station". I can't remember exactly but isn't the plan to move Wallgate platforms to the other side of the WCML and have all the access from North Western? You've no issues with Wallgate station then as it won't be there.

    Northern Short Forming Again

Supposedly a fair few 150s going spare from South Wales very soon, some already stood down waiting exams. That would be a much better fit than the 175s would be, they could be in service in days vs months or longer!

    Where has a 195 been?

One reason is that there are a lot of crew changes at Blackburn and they don't currently sign 195s. It's likely you'd end up with 195 stuck up there. They couldn't even move it to the depot with out some special arrangements

    Where has a 195 been?

There's a 195 booked on the last Staly from Vic each night currently. 195s have appeared on the Wigan via Golborne recently too. 195s run via Brighouse/Dewsbury pretty regularly too when issues occur at Bradford. Wigan NW via Atherton loads of times. Liverpool via Warrington BQ to Chester.

    Car Transporter trains on WCML

Yes apologies Manchester Victoria! Usually early in the morning. I think it came over from the Calder Valley direction and headed towards Liverpool.

    Calder Valley Loop

I think they made a mistake when they rebuilt Rochdale in creating a bay vs a through platform that could be used when the terminating train was not around. It would have added so much more flexibility for overtakes! The other place for me (and agree with Edwin above) would be at Hebden Bridge...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

Sorry if this has been asked before but what do the works at Huddersfield consist of in this current blockade?

Plans announced to open a new train maintenance facility at Shipley

Of course while some stock is now elsewhere if you want to have longer trains you're going to need more space for them. I think it's fair to say the 70s and 80s were pretty catastrophic for stabling space. I'm sure they will find something else to fill up the excess capacity at Neville Hill. A...

    Derailment near Grange Over Sands

As 1D53 says Manchester/Calder Valley (at least from my observations) isnt affected too much. All the units that are up there were on Barrow work and as those trains are not running for obvious reasons the issues are less. You can turn around the remaining units with hours to spare at Preston...
