Our new ticketing site is now live! Using either this or the original site (both powered by TrainSplit) helps support the running of the forum with every ticket purchase! Find out more and ask any questions/give us feedback in this thread!
And it's the way that Twitter/X's algorithms have been tweaked that have resulted in me commencing my migration to Bluesky. Twitter/X's feed is now full of spam and messages I am not interested in, whereas Bluesky is fully focused on letting me see messages from those I follow.
I will use both...
I'm going back to National Rail Conditions of Travel 9.5.1 which, to remind everyone, states:
"9.5.1 (Where you) are using a time-restricted Ticket (such as an “off-peak” or “super-off-peak” Ticket) that is correctly dated but invalid for the service on which you are travelling....
you will be...
I managed to take a quick photo, whilst walking up to Valley Parade today.
The photo was taken from the bridge over the railway (A6181 Hamm Strasse) and is looking away from Forster Square station, towards Valley Parade (i.e. the Shipley direction) and shows the new track from the new platform...
Really enjoying the new (beta) site.
However, one minor issue cropped up with my most recent booking, which may or may not be down the the new site, as there were relatively few seats left to reserve on the booked service.
My train from Tamworth to Leeds was split over 3 tickets, which came...
Slowly but surely I feel like I'm being pushed away from the railways, after being a regular user for over 50 years.
During Covid lockdown I purchased an electric car (massive discount, as it was stuck on a forecourt) and the fuel savings are eye opening and I've only partly returned to the...
It also carried seated accommodation. I used it quite a bit (coming back from midweek football matches at Valley Parade) as it connected well with the Leeds to Shrewsbury service at Stockport.
Back in the 1980s there was a 00:30 service from Manchester Piccadilly to Euston service, which was joined together, at Stafford, with the 00:15 Liverpool Lime St to Euston service.
I lived in Weymouth for over 5 years (1980s) and I always preferred the winter when it was quieter. Weymouth remains one of my favourite seaside terminus stations, although I miss the old station and the line to the quay.
A vote also for Cleethorpes, if only for its excellent real ale bars...
I see no point in dragging Avanti back into this as I firmly believe Avanti were correct to pay out.
There is nothing that Northern did that caused me to arrive 62 minutes late at my destination. I have expressed my view to Northern and offered to pay the money back to them, which they have...
I've now received Northern's reply and their bottom line is keep the money, but their reasoning is very interesting, as to who is technically responsible for the delay.
My argument, which Avanti ultimately accepted was that Avanti were responsible, as their train from Preston, was cancelled...
If we are getting to the stage where people are regularly unable to make it to the train, due to the late announcements, I would suggest people start booking passenger assistance when travelling from Euston.
This is not the first time this has happened to me, and I suspect it won't be the last.
Journey Date: 24 February 2024
Planned Itinerary:
Barrow-in-Furness d 14:47 - Northern
Preston a 16:08
Preston d 16:18 – Avanti
Stafford a 17:22
The Northern service ran, but the Avanti service was...
My average, since I got my EV over 2 years ago, works out at just under 2p per mile; that's mostly home charging, as I rarely exceed the car's 250 mile range.
My 200 mile round trip from Stafford to Bradford works out at around £3.50, which explains why my rail usage has dropped dramatically...
Does no one else use electronic calendars?
I have two calendar entries for each important renewal, one is the date that I can renew (usually a month before expiry) and the other is the actual expiry date. For each entry a reminder pops up, on the due date, on my phone and my PC/tablet.
RailUK was launched on 6th June 2005 - so we've hit 20 years being the UK's most popular railway community! Read more and celebrate this milestone with us in this thread!
