Just a brief update from the RAIB confirming they are investigating and the scope of that investigation:

When there are further updates please let us know so we can post them or open the thread if appropriate. You...
There's been some developments today regarding this. Nothing offical as yet but a, to my understanding, respected source of aviation news has the following story today (which has been picked up by other outlets as well)...
And, for various functions, even a driving licence isn't accepted by itself as sufficient proof of identity.
I'm really struggling to see why this point seems so hard to understand for some people. I can only assume that they're in the fortunate position of either having rarely needed to verify...
Obviously disappointing when plans don't come together and I know the BLS guys and gals do do their best to make everything work but I'm sure it'll still be a good day. Whilst I'm not on it I've never yet had a "dud" railtour with the BLS and I'm sure they won't start now!
No you may not <:D
To me it's an issue of ever more criminal offences for petty nonsense. If the police really feel that they need to work out who you are then let them arrest you, having met the necessary thresholds for an arrest, which then engages the various requirements and protections...
(a) I don't dispute there isn't risk, of course there is, but it seems manageable to me with some personal responsibility. My head remains firmly attached because I only ever did it in daylight and paid attention to what was coming down the track (and if you couldn't see it you retreated back...
I think the only real difference is the amount of crew required. Dish takes slightly more manpower to deliver I reckon due to having a number of hot items unlike Deli which can be served by one host if needed (I've seen it done! It was quite slow but they managed it all solo).
The how busy the...
I mean, it is okay as long as your careful about it. Thing is people were being idiots and therefore got themselves killed and some poor sods had to clean up after them. I can see why it was banned on Network Rail and why it's discouraged elsewhere. Makes total sense. But I'm not sure I see why...
There is obviously some logic being applied but it's not just "this train is dinner time therefore Dish/Dine will apply". There's clearly some revenue thought going into it (for instance this train is busy, has expensive fares and so is our high yielding passengers we want to keep sweet...
Yes but sometimes discussions develop in other directions? That's how a conversation tends to flow? And after more than 100 posts it's not surely a surprise that people are expanding beyond a narrow initial context to consider other factors within the topic being raised?
Yes? As I said I'm opposed to the mandatory carrying of ID? However I am in favour of introducing a an ID card that simplifies the interactions with the state and various businesses when they need to verify who you are for various purposes. Far easier for everyone both those needing to prove who...
This is the key thing for me. A lot of people complain about how much of an imposition it is to have prove your identity and how we shouldn't have to be a "papers please" society. But that rather misses the fact that we already are a papers please society and I reckon suggests (at least for...
Well duh, this is the railway industry! If they can find the most un-customer friendly way of doing anything they'll make sure they do that first because of some perceived risk of fraud or other misuse, only to eventually work out that they're being stupid and change their mind and then realise...
