Surely if 450s were to be used why not use the withdrawn 350/2 and convert them to 3rd rail and battery equipment. Plus the seating could be configured to a 2+2 seating.
How many companies could allow all their staff to work from home or for them to be on holiday. Don’t forget August is the most expensive time to go on holiday in this country.
On the same topic with brutes that I haven’t seen since the end of slam door stock at Waterloo station is a tug with a water bowser attached to it. For filling the mk1 coach toilet water tanks.
Since the topic is about railway tickets. Can anyone remember the last time they were given a Edmondson railway ticket. Mind was from Winchester to Eastleigh return must be around 1988/89 if I remember correctly.
Thanks
I remember a long time ago being issued with a square ticket from a hand held machine on the concourse due to the ticket machine being out of order and the ticket office being closed.
Just wonder how much faster than 100 mph do you need to go in this country apart from the HS1/HS2 and the East and West coast main line and possible the main line to the West Country.
I remember travelling on mk1 stock (VEP/CEP) and being able to walk through to the next unit and being able to see the unit speedo showing the units speed.
Class 158 and 159 have now been around for a considerable amount of time. From memory 158s were built between 1989 and 1992 and 159s were with between 1992 and 1993. I wonder how many more years before we see these units withdraw from service or will they solider on for many more years like 205...
What about putting diesel power units under the coaches and running them on the West of England service Via Basingstoke and reclassifying them 742,s :)
Non of the stations including Itchen Abbas had a footbridge. Even the footbridge at Alton was a secondhand Bridge. From memory I think I read somewhere it possibly came from Guildford station.
Just up the line from Weymouth is the Hamworthy goods branch line. Does anyone know if the Hamworthy goods line is still open and when was the last time the branch line was used.
thanks
A bit off topic but still about Basingstoke station. Does anyone know when the down bay platform was last used. I don’t think there is any track there now and there hasn’t been for sometime from memory.
thanks
But new isn’t always better. Just look at the class 800 compared to an HST set. Give me a HST set any day of the week. The same could be said for class 442. Always found them to be ok. Maybe a bit slow to get going compared to a 444 or 450 but does it matter. Not to me.
