Previously a guard for two years, and now a driver. I did get a lot of walking in as a guard in comparison to sitting down driving all day. I do however make the effort to always go for a walk during my PNB, and in those 20/ 30 minute turn arounds at terminal stations. Keeps me fresh and alert...

Drivers sign a multitude of routes, some drive both suburban and longer distance. It's not as clear cut as two separate drivers grades... Not that it'd be right to make two grades in any case.

I was a guard for just over 2 years, started my Train Driver course this week, alongside another guard, and platform staff (as well as external folk). Some people are quicker, some people take longer. :)
