    EMR refusing Scottish money

Indeed. I work in retail and it's our policy to accept all Scottish and Northern Irish notes. The latter tends to result in a supervisor call from the cashier though! We have had problems with forged ones, usually the forgeries are poor and rely on the unfamiliarity of the English cashier...

    EMR refusing Scottish money

Does the Conditions of Travel still specifically permit Scottish banknotes? Could it possibly be argued that passengers with such notes, should there not also be any TVMs accepting them can pay on the train as their payment method is not accepted at the station?

SWR showing "no tickets available" on Exeter/Waterloo trains 8 May (GWR strike day)

It appears this time SWR haven't put the reservations compulsory flag on but XC have. Possibly your itinerary involved CrossCountry?

SWR showing "no tickets available" on Exeter/Waterloo trains 8 May (GWR strike day)

At first I suspected the dreaded (and stupid) compulsory reservations flag but a look on RealTimeTrains seems to dispute this. Anyone any idea what's going on?

    Special Offers Discussion

Narrowly missed the Daily Mirror , they'd bundled all the papers up. Anyone have any idea on if there'll be any more tokens published and when? Does it say?

Urgent - court case Friday 12th April

Yes, I think you're quite right and I'm shocked but not surprised that it got this far. TPE have form for ridiculous prosecutions as of late. I did post my post before yours appeared, that would explain the overlap.

"Not via Doncaster" on a ticket from York to Hull

And is a mapped route, or at least was last I checked, the doubleback between Micklefield and Leeds falling within the 'group stations rule'. This is a historically valid route in the original Routeing Guide, which makes significant sense for passengers travelling from Thirsk or perhaps...

Urgent - court case Friday 12th April

The wording is that the OP failed to produce/deliver a ticket. Yet the OP did just this. The offence is therefore the incorrect one, now that this has gone to court if a statutory declaration were made, what would be the possiblity of the charge being altered? If this is the only alleged...

Speculation: East Yorkshire to launch competition on York - Selby route?

I'm a Selby to York commuter, who works mostly late shifts and holds an Arriva subscription through the Employer Travel Club. It may surprise you (or may not) to learn that I'm dead against this. Not because Arriva are a good company, they're middling at best (though bloody fantastic compared...

"Simpler" and "fairer" fares to reduce overcrowding and offer the best deal for taxpayers

Goodness you had me all worked up then. Thankfully it's April fools day but I don't hold out much hope on life not imitating satire at some point.

Trivia: Bus routes that cannot use double decker vehicles

I believe Arriva Yorkshire 42 can't due to the nature of the old bridge in Cawood.

    Signatures on railcards

Not necessarily the wisest decision, fallbacks to signature verification can and do happen, although it's rare, it's usually when you're abroad in my experience. I work at a supermarket which has a lot of international clientele and unsigned cards cause us and their users no end of hassle...

DfT appoints Alex Hynes as Director General, Rail Services

Is it just me, or, if memory serves me right, was it Alex Hynes who pioneered Northern's rather desperate revenue protection policy? Certainly seemed to bloom under his watch, or was it one of his predecessors?

    Split ticketing rights

Unsure about the first point but on the second they're quite wrong. I saw a particularly desperate lner guard advise someone that, would be interesting to know which operator this is.

    CT Scanners at Security

So the question arises : how do I travel abroad with photographic film now? I'm just getting back into film photography and am glad I didn't take my stuff on my previous trip by the sound of it.

    CT Scanners at Security

I've heard these are a disaster for film photography. Can anyone comment on their experience?

    Scotrail’s alcohol ban - pointless?

I've always thought the way the railways enforce alcohol bans is ridiculous in the first place. No drinking alcohol on problematic services - that I'm fine with. No bringing alcohol at all - ridiculous. No bringing alcohol at all on any service - utterly bonkers.

    East Anglia planned pylons

Amazing the people on here who probably support HS2 but oppose the pylons 'where they live'. Thanks to NIMBYism we can't seem to get anything done in this country, if something's of national importance it should be planned on a national level. Provided the benefits of the pylons outweigh the...

Trip to York - looking for fares advice

Indeed it is, though for the case of First they actually go slightly outside the 'All York' area into East Yorkshire, Stamford Bridge. Arriva go into (well actually come out of) North Yorkshire but pretty sure their 'York Urban' ticket is only valid in York itself.
