Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

Without wanting to go off topic, plenty of flimsy OHLE in Europe and also examples of running diesel under wires for extended periods. At least trains like this are allowing emissions reductions by making use of wires along some of their route. It may not be ideal but better than a diesel...

    Remaining Effects of Covid

Thanks. It's not often that bad but can be. No exaggeration but can have times where if I sneeze once, I'll sneeze 20 times, then end up with the coughing fit. Luckily don't get runny eyes with it so some people have far worse than I do.

    Remaining Effects of Covid

My hay-fever symptoms make it appear to others that I have a cold. Can sneeze so much causes a coughing fit!

    Remaining Effects of Covid

I'll be quite honest and say I didn't but that's because it's not of any interest to myself and, possibly, many others. Was fed up with it in 2020/21. Was it really newsworthy? Probably not, hence my comment.

    Remaining Effects of Covid

The concerns are probably those of the BBC and a small minority of the population. Everyone else is just getting on with their lives.

That might be what you want but it's very costly and not necessarily the most sensible option.

    Bus Manufacturer News & Discussion

Isn’t this for straight diesel buses? Surely as a hybrid it'll already have some batteries fitted? Would seem a much better investment to refit what are comparatively modern vehicles?

    South Wales 'Metro' updates

No, because a station in Magor would help reduce traffic problems. Currently people drive to Newport or Severn Tunnel. There are a reasonable number of people who would live within easy walking distance of the station so driving is unnecessary.

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 FLIRTs

What is their fuel capacity? Would imagine they're not the best with regards to fuel consumption?

CAF Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

We're going off topic here but remember they're oversubscribed partly because they are better funded than English medium schools.

    Class 93 Tri-mode Loco

The cooling system has to remove a lot of heat, even if the engine were 50% thermally efficient, which it won't be, the cooling system still has to lose 1200hp (about 900kW) or 900000 joules of energy per second at full power. Try and find a video of a 73 on diesel in the summer (with original...

    Class 93 Tri-mode Loco

The one thing that counts against a 67 is its rather high gearing, surely this doesn't help on this sort of route? Having said that not suggesting that a 93 would keep up with one.

    Answers my question too then!

    Class 93 Tri-mode Loco

Are they able to supply ETS on diesel? Know this was of some debate with 88s, due to low installed power on diesel.

Ordinary passengers using heritage railways as public transport.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway gets a few people using it to get to the races at Cheltenham Racecourse when they are on to avoid traffic?

    Class 93 Tri-mode Loco

Very much in theory then a Bo-Bo wheel arrangement could give over 100,000lbs of TE but it would have a huge axle loading that would not be permitted here? Not sure what axle loading is on a 93, around 21 tons? Be interesting to see what one can achieve on wet rails up Shap?!! How do 88s fare...

    Class 93 Tri-mode Loco

The basic physics is still the same though that Force x Speed = Power (I know strictly should talk about velocity), so if TE is higher at the same speed then rail power is higher. If continuous TE is significantly higher it would follow, for the same rail power, that speed that it occurred at...

    Class 93 Tri-mode Loco

As already pointed out it will be very quiet, an 88 is almost inaudible when on diesel. Even older designs can be quiet when re-engineered, listen to a Slovakian 757 - you can hear the traction motors over the engine!!

    Class 93 Tri-mode Loco

If these figures are correct then implies a much higher power at rail for the AC drive; would expect a slightly higher value for AC as motors are more efficient but this is significantly more.

    HST Power Car pairings

Ah OK, nowhere near the mid 2000s that I was thinking of!
