Ferrying vehicles between depots and operators - who drives em ?

If it is depot to depot sometimes the engineering side (including shunting staff) will shift buses overnight or following day and if straight swap take vehicles from the other garage back the way. Perhaps two garages will be involved. Other times could see both drivers and the likes of office...

    Stagecoach East Scotland

The likes of the 99 the B8RLEs proper heavyweight would be ideal for it but Stagecoach will look now at new Volvo BZLs although taking a chance as they may not last a full day plus is there any charging points at St Andrews?

    First Glasgow Presidents after withdrawal

The Enviro 500s were ordered to go on the 62 road so Parkhead was to get all of them along with all incoming Tridents that year. The story was the Baillieston loop wouldn’t accommodate the E500s, yet same length single deck B7RLEs managed. The other story was that Parkhead had no adblue, but...

    First Glasgow Presidents after withdrawal

From 33008 onwards these were much better Tridents. It's just a pity that there was skimping with refurbishments. A number were bypassed and put into service with double doors and London spec CCTV that was changed to Glasgow setup, so double-door buses went to Parkhead. Drivers could not see the...

These will be the first buses from ADL where heating in cab is poor or virtually non existent. All previous models E300,400,200/400MMC cab heating is like ovens. On odd occasion you would find issues with these vehicles although the pump or blower motor can fail as these are parts very well used.

I think they’re quite happy with EVs being allocated to daytime boards or boards that return to depots mid evening (especially if they depart from the depot mid morning at weekends). Routes like the 46, 64, and 65 were originally not intended at all for EVs (core routes with branding were) but...

What on earth is a Wright 'Floline'?

The Flolines (on Scania chassis) were never as good as the Renown (on the Volvo). While it was near enough the same body I preferred the Renown layout. The Renown was virtually rattle free due to the far superior suspension Volvo had. The Scania suspension was awful they were boneshakers and...

The 4/4A is much quieter to what it was 6/7 years ago. Scottish Power in Cathcart and the old Victoria Infirmary closing killed it. Before that it was pretty busy route.

Trivia: Air conditioning on UK buses

The Glasgow Geminis 57,08,58 plates had air con inside (not air chill like TFL buses) that was why upstair had no opening windows. These buses spent most of there early years in Larkfield and the air con did work in them. Larkfield had a heating/air con person who would regas/fix any issues both...

Parkhead did the 18 from 2002 for about 2 years with driver changeover at Glasgow Cross. Scotstoun took it afterwards, although Parkhead still did some morning peaks on it for a few years.

No EVs going to Lanarkshire either just now. It does appear older diesel going there which is a step back. As for Yutongs none are coming to Glasgow. First Aberdeen are due to get these.

    Alexander-Dennis Enviro 400 Vs Wright Gemini 2

The Enviro 400 was a step down from previous ALX400 and Presidents. The last of the Presidents was in 2004 when Transbus went bust. The Volvo B7TL/President was a good bus - this had no rattles either. The ALX400 continued until late 2006 as an ADL bus with either the Volvo or previous Trident...

    Alexander-Dennis Enviro 400 Vs Wright Gemini 2

Think it’s a failed Coolant Temp sensor causing the fan issue. Ideally the fan would only be noticeable at full speed if the engine was warmer than normal. However with failed sensor the fan is on constantly.

    Alexander-Dennis Enviro 400 Vs Wright Gemini 2

Speaking as somebody who has driven these buses the Wright Gemini 2 is the better bus (more expensive too). Take the Enviro 400. It’s a decent enough bus to drive however the suspension is the same as the Trident rather stiff so not great on UK roads and interior the E400 does have rattles...

    First Greater Glasgow

The B7TL/Geminis were decent enough buses. They were solid, had decent suspension and braking system (53/54 plates) and were up there with the best. Definitely one of the smoothest vehicles in the fleet. These near enough all ran the same; there was no gearbox settings that later B7/B9TLs had...

Yes they’ve been in EK when Caley done the 21. There is also morning specials on the 18 and 21 that Caley do and EVs are on them.

The length of a lot of shifts are a disgrace even the early/lates over the years have got gradually worse. Take an early shift 10/15 years ago that would start just after 4am would see you finish anytime between midday and 12.45. Now the same shift wouldn’t see you finished closer to...

I think the Streetdeck perhaps only buses normal height otherwise all ADL E400MMCs over the years have been lowheights. In Glasgow the 65 and 66 plates are normal height.

    First Greater Glasgow

First appear over last number of years to have ordered lowheights, a similar thing to what Stagecoach do across the group (except London). Yet previously First ordered standard height vehicles. I'm not why - is there perhaps a price difference?
