Congratulations! I'm in week 2 at the moment and enjoying it a lot. I'm quickly getting used to the routine of work, eat, sleep, repeat!

I started today, and the gist of it is that it's all going ahead as planned until such time as we are told something different. Personally I don't think that will change unless the government were to introduce even stricter measures.

Good luck, and enjoy it. We'll be starting at the same time but in different places. Hope the earlier start gives you a chance to get organised for being away.

Starting in Derby on Monday. Nervous and excited at the same time - it's been a long time since I was last at school!

If it helps, I've just had my information pack for signalling school, and it says the dress code is 'smart casual', and goes on to say that this excludes 'shorts, ripped jeans, sports tops, track suits, jogging bottoms and trainers'.

Thanks ffesti, that's a great video. It's slightly scary watching that because I didn't entirely understand (read, I had absolutely no idea) what was happening, but I guess I'll learn soon enough! I got the impression that the instructor was rather enjoying waiting for the exact moment for...

Ok, that's great information - thanks to both of you.

Oh my, way more than just a computer program, then! Thank you for that. What is it like to use?

That's great Amanda, congrats. On the subject of IST, I've read many times on this thread about the importance of spending time on the simulator at signalling school, but can anyone here elaborate on what exactly this simulator is? Is it simply a computer program, or is it more like a physical...

The speed does come with practice - once you've done a particular type of question a few times, you should hopefully begin to recognize them when they come up and you'll know how to tackle it without spending a lot of time thinking about it. The only formula for percentages I remember using a...

My top tip for the numerical test is to practice as many of them as you can, with a focus on improving your speed. The time limit on the actual test was, for me, the biggest challenge. I'm pretty good at maths, but the added time pressure means that you don't really have much time to think...

To be fair, there are a lot of companies who allow employee discounts to be used by the employee's spouse. The best way to find out if that's allowed is to ask, which is what he did.

Thanks for pointing that out. It seems that the words are the same as the ones I learned back in the 80's, although I have to admit I'm not sure the spellings of the words are the same as I remember. There seems to be some discrepancy on the internet as to whether A is Alpha or Alfa, and...

Thanks for that, good to know. I learned the phonetic alphabet in the scouts many moons ago so at least that's one less thing to stress about.

I decided it would be a good idea to learn the bell codes before heading off to signalling school in a few weeks time. Is there any kind of logic to them? As part of the application process I spent a lot of time practicing for the inductive reasoning test where you have to spot patterns in...

The company that carry out the medicas is called Optima Health - it might be worth giving them an email, as I'm sure they would be able to answer your question.

For me it consisted of: Medical questionnaire Sight test (reading letters off a board) Field of vision test (can you see things out of the corner of your eyes) Colour vision test (reading numbers in coloured dots) Blood pressure check Height and weight measurements Hearing test (pressing a...

Congratulations! I had confirmation of passing my medical last week, and as far as I know I'll be starting in Derby on the 2nd Nov too. I know of one other person on this forum with the same start date at Derby so it looks like the three of us will be revision buddies! Look forward to seeing you...
