    European rail trackers/RTT/Traksy etc

It covers the Netherlands as well. With the full open data apparently, as I see it displays buses as well.

Differences in rolling stock safety regulations in mainland Europe compared to UK

Ow yes, have been delayed quite a few times between Utrecht and Amersfoort when police was searching the tracks for a reported trespasser. That line is one of the few lines where it happened regulary due to a psychiatric clinic near the railway where patients tended to escape once in a while.

Differences in rolling stock safety regulations in mainland Europe compared to UK

The Amsterdam ICs have a temporary sales point for snacks, drinks and coffee/tea in one of the compartments. No warm meals available however. There certainly is no requirement for a restaurant car from NS, the train swap in your example was necessary due to the driving trailers not being...

Differences in rolling stock safety regulations in mainland Europe compared to UK

I've also seen it the other way around, with doors closed on both parts of the train. That probably also has to do with the fact that nowadays coupling mostly happens to attach a set from the yard to an arriving train, so when the set from the yard arrives first there are no disembarking...

Differences in rolling stock safety regulations in mainland Europe compared to UK

The staff at Schiphol is just to spread passengers evenly over trains to Amsterdam and stop them boarding after the guard had initiated departure. Whilst splitting the doors are only closed on the set being split off indeed, but when coupling the doors are closed on both sets as that will cause...

    TGV Driver Announcement

Probably it also plays a role that Dutch is a relatively small language, not at all spoken widely outside the Netherlands and Flanders. So it is economically more important do speak at least one foreign language. That's also why at Dutch high schools the higher education levels start with four...

    TGV Driver Announcement

Some similar story is the Maastricht - Liège service, which was actually combined with Liège - Hasselt not for any commercial reason but for a language reason. NMBS had trouble finding drivers speaking sufficient Dutch in Wallonia, but locating bilingual drivers speaking Dutch and French on...

Whence and Whither in ČD Journey Planner

That's nothing compared to what the Google Chrome translate function produces applied to ns.nl "Van" and "Naar" become "By" and "Unpleasant", a clear example those translate functions can't handle words which have multiple meanings.

Interesting journeys in Belgium and the Netherlands

In the Netherlands it is mandatory to have an ID with you when aged 14 and older. An ID might be an ID card, passport or driving licence and there's a high fine on not producing one at first request (€150 when I'm not mistaken) Edit: the fine is € 110 + 9 euro admin costs.

Differences in rolling stock safety regulations in mainland Europe compared to UK

Obviously, on mainland Europe regulations for existing trains may be less strict than for new or refurbished trains. There are loads of NS trains as well without contrasting colours for doors for example (but during refurbishment or with new trains doors have contrasting colours). The lack of...

Countries where rail traffic drives on a different side to road traffic

Fairly common in the Netherlands as well, though there are exceptions. For example in Soest the first arriving train (from Utrecht) uses the straight track and the other direction the diverging track as otherwise the train to Utrecht would block the level crossing which is the only way to leave...

Countries where rail traffic drives on a different side to road traffic

That Belgian trains run on the left south of Roosendaal was already mentioned, but with regards to signals switching sides there also is some dedicated signage: the Dutch signals between Essen and Roosendaal are equipped with signs displaying an arrow pointing to the track the signals belong to...

Countries where rail traffic drives on a different side to road traffic

However, only international trains do that in both directions south of Maastricht. Domestic trains have a very awkward track usage south of Maastricht: two trains run parallel to each other from Maastricht to Maastricht Randwyck and back. So one of them runs on the left to Randwyck and back on...

    Calendar oddity on https://www.ns.nl/

This doesn't only apply to one Sprinter stop further by the way, but may also apply when looking for tickets for one Intercity stop further down the line. For example: you'll find little deals for Amersfoort to Apeldoorn, but much more for Amersfoort to Deventer. The other way round I even...

    Calendar oddity on https://www.ns.nl/

The calender used might just be the same web template or something like that. Always fun, those calender oddities on websites of public transport companies. I've once seen a Dutch bus company's webshop showing that an annual subscription starting on the 1st of January 2014 would be valid until...

    Calendar oddity on https://www.ns.nl/

NS and IT has never been a good combination, they've got bugs all over their website and app. Sometimes refreshing the page helps, but not always. Calenders on their website are horrible anyway: I've seen many reports of customers on the NS community website who've tried to buy a ticket for...

Recently I'm getting below error message every now and then when visiting RailForums. Might be something for the forum staff to look into?

Interesting journeys in Belgium and the Netherlands

The east and south of the Netherlands have dialects more widely spoken among locals. In the west people from various regions are much more mixed up and dialects are less present (but do exist). For me, the difference between my place of birth (Dordrecht, just below Rotterdam) and Amersfoort...

Interesting journeys in Belgium and the Netherlands

Den Haag HS is also a beautiful historic station, despite the interior of the platform building being more modern as it was destroyed by a devastating fire in 1989.

Interesting journeys in Belgium and the Netherlands

To add to the list above: ICM is also on Den Haag - Groningen/Leeuwarden, Schiphol - Enschede and Den Haag/Schiphol - Amersfoort Schothorst. However there are hardly any services completely operated by ICM anymore. Mostly it's a mix with DDZ with varying ratios from service to service. In my...
