    Unable to Collect Ticket

I think I've only used Apple Pay on c2c before for e-tickets, but this one was to Boundary Zone 6, hence there was no option but to collect.

    Unable to Collect Ticket

As I recall I was prompted to input the booking reference after putting the card in, and then told the ticket could not be collected with that card. It did then suggest using another card, but it seemed illogical to me that it might accept some other random card after rejecting the one I'd used...

    Unable to Collect Ticket

Thank you. I had a feeling Apple Pay might have had something to do with it. It was a low value ticket for immediate use and as I was in a hurry I just bought another from the machine. I've put in a refund request to c2c on the grounds of "ticket no longer required" which hopefully will be OK.

    Unable to Collect Ticket

If anyone can shed any light on this I'd be interested. Yesterday I purchased a ticket on the c2c app. I paid using ApplePay, all seemed to go through fine and I got my collection code. Yet when I tried to collect it, using the same card I'd paid with on ApplePay, the machine said I was unable...

Which iPhone would you recommend in 2024?

Over the years I've gone from the Iphone 6 to the 8 and quite recently to the SE, which I find fine. I can't comment on the other models other than to say I thought the prices were ridiculous. I think you'd find the SE a nice easy upgrade.

60+ Oyster and travel outside London

Thank you. Entering "Boundary Zone 6" works fine on c2c, but is not accepted on Rail UK Ticketing.

60+ Oyster and travel outside London

On the subject of boundary zone fares, I have just experimented with a Boundary Zone 6 to Fareham ticket on this forum's ticketing site and also c2c. On c2c you can enter "Zone U6* London" as starting point which brings up times but no fares so can go no further. The RailUKforums ticket site...

    Kentish Town v Farringdon

I meant to say "season ticket".

    Kentish Town v Farringdon

Some years ago I was working around Blackfriars and discovered a period travelcard from East Croydon to West Hampstead Thameslink was cheaper and by a reasonable amount. It always opened the barriers at Blackfriars and I think also at Farringdon and St Pancras, but for some reason never at City...

60+ Oyster and travel outside London

The 60+ Oyster is valid to end of Zone 6. If you're on a train and want to go beyond that you can either get a boundary zone ticket, or a ticket from the last station in Zone 6 on that route. The train doesn't have to stop there, nor do you have to touch in or out - it's the same rules as a Zone...

What functions cannot be performed by Ticket Vending Machines, and why?

I've never got a ticket machine to do a Boundary Zone ticket, even the ones which supposedly do.

What can you do if somebody sits on your booked seat ?

I agree, I think seat reservations are more trouble than they're worth. On trains south of London lack of seat reservations seems to work perfectly fine. I understand family groups etc want to sit together, but I usually find people will move to accommodate them if there's space.

    Walking and Rambling discussion

I've just looked at your blog which is very interesting. I normally start the walk at Waddon station, although that means you miss the river flowing through Wandle Park. Re Beddington Park, you're right that it's difficult to follow the river through the woodland in the park, which can get very...

    Walking and Rambling discussion

Last week I did the Wandle Trail from Croydon as far as Earlsfield (about 10 miles). It's a good walk in many ways - nearly all flat, mostly quite scenic, and being within the London area easy to abandon if the weather turns bad. Although you can follow the trail up to the Wandle's confluence...

My advice: Never book to travel with Grand Central

I had an issue with Grand Central just over a week ago, where both the 0921 and the 1019 from Hartlepool to Kings Cross were cancelled and it seemed the only alternative was to wait for the 1254 as they had "not been able to arrange ticket acceptance with other operators". Luckily I found this...

Extent of London, 'basically London', and the commuter belt

For me it's the Greater London boundary. Beyond that, places vary in how "London facing" they are in terms of culture and commuting, which depends on how much employment is available locally as well as distance from London, and whether there's a distinctive local culture that's not based on...

"Best Selling" or "Most Popular" products that don't deserve it?

Red Bull - can't see it's much different or any better than the cheapo energy drinks from Aldi and others. For me it's not so much the "best selling" brands aren't good, they're just massively over-priced compared with alternatives.

Best Way to the Isle of Wight?

I've only been on the Red Funnel from Southampton in the recent past and found it very pleasant and relaxing. It docks at East Cowes which doesn't have that much in it, unless you want to shop in Waitrose, but there's a decent bus service to Ryde and Newport, and a chain ferry across the Medina...

    Understanding Boundary Fares

Just be aware that when purchasing your Cambridge to boundary zone 6 ticket you will most likely have to get it at a ticket office. I know you're supposed to be able to get them from certain ticket machines, but I've never been able to do so.

    Supermarkets discussion

My car fob nearly always sets off the exit alarm (and sometimes the entry alarm too) at Aldi. I just walk off now, security can run after me if they really want to.
