Difference between banner repeaters and co-acting signals?

Co-acting signals would be provided alongside a signal, for example at a platform or by a bridge where the layout of the cab or other such infrastructure would ordinarily prevent the “main” signal being seen clearly. A banner repeater would be some distance before the signal because the signal...

    Gathurst has an expensive toilet

I’m not surprised given the cost in the rail industry and more generally across public infrastructure projects that seems to be going on right now. In a previous role I undertook we were quoted by Network Rail a six figure sum for installation of a waiting shelter equipped with lighting and...

Luton Airport changes (travel desk / DART gateline)

Some foreign tourists also still rely on cash as many countries are not as enlightened as the UK to have widespread FX-free bank cards.

    Kensington Olympia Station, "not step-free"

I agree. Step free access is avaliable to all three platforms at Olympia, and on the West London line, stations either side are both step free, so I would say given the limited funds avaliable there are definitely more deserving cases and areas in London where there’s no stations that are step free.

    Independent businesses on stations?

I’m not sure if it’s a deliberate policy of TfL or just by happenstance, but it seems to me that most retailers at LUL and Overground stations, whether simply just newsagents or coffee shops, are independent businesses as opposed to chains from the likes of SSP that you see at Mainline stations.

    New Overground line names progress?

The list isn't jumbled up; it's the case that the line(s)/mode(s) with the most severe disruption will appear at the top.

Stations rebranded to Great British Railways design / Rail Alphabet 2

Looks to me that it was measured correctly - measured to replace the sign that was on the boards beforehand (Picture on Wikimedia commons here). Also of note is that they seem to have dropped the bizarre policy of splitting the departure board in two for "East" and "West," with all trains now...

Byelaws and the road outside a railway station / network rail land

Network Rail will have some sort of GIS / property asset register which details the extent of railway lands. This map includes data that was released in 2016 and will give you a basic indication: http://map.whoownsengland.org/ I’m not sure if it’s avaliable as open data like TfL’s one is; if...

    HS2 TBM Progress

Does anyone know what the issue with the siding at West Ruislip being taken out of commission is? It’s been closed at least a week now with HS2 saying some kind of “safety audit” is needed. A letter from the council (who have increased the permitted hours of road deliveries) to residents implies...

[Trivia] Unstaffed stations - busiest and largest?

Filton Abbey Wood has had schedule 17 hours for a ticket booth staffed during the evening peak for as long as I can remember. During Wessex Trains days this was a man in the hut with an Avantix machine like many other stations in the area such as Yate and Keynsham. When the Greater Western...

    Tyndrum (Upper and Lower)

ls there really much cost of keeping a station open in such the circumstances, especially at low-speed locations such as this? Single-track station on double-track railway?

The second through platform at Princes Risborough was reinstated some 25 years ago, in 1998. And in any case you could argue it doesn’t meet the requirements for the thread as it was not a single through platform on a double track line, but only ended up like this when the line was...

    Ticket Barrier Blues

Cubic Gates do, S&B don’t (they display a reason, the reason list being in the first list that I linked to in the post you quoted). Public Station Pianos.

If you watch this video you can see why it may be an innocent mistake, as the producer for the group said that he is making something for Japanese TV, and also refers to the pianist being Japanese.
