Clearing the Air - RDG Report

I am on a mobile and the forum software, through choice or no choice, insists on not showing signatures in mobile view. No idea of benfit for needing to do so or even if I can change the default behaviour myself. I will briefly switch to desktop view.

Tree on the line between Woking & Brookwood

Would it have been possible to provide an update to passengers explaining this or would that have caused further problems and tensions?

Tree on the line between Woking & Brookwood

I checked online to see if the storm was named but it seems the Met Office hadn't named it but Météo France had named it Storm Renata. https://rmc.bfmtv.com/actualites/sciences-nature/meteo/depression-renata-trois-departements-en-vigilance-orange-vent-violent_AN-202404140274.html So I guess...

    Unusual sign at Littlehampton

That makes sense. Their is a more plastic looking postbox in the foyer.

    Unusual sign at Littlehampton

It also gas a boarded up EIIR postbox on platform 2 next to rhe former office. I'm guessing the postbox only came in to use around 1987/88. If it stopped being used in 2001, it's had more years disused than in use.

No working toilet on the train.

Well the 19:29 Gatwick Airport to Reading service tonight has no working loo. I boarded it at Redhill unaware of this. Even Journey Check doesn't mention it. That obviously requires someone to inform someone and someone to have time to do the update. The Journey Check Web site can be found at...

Ticket machines: Why has QWERTY been abandoned?

I see their us a separate thread for this now, which I hadn't spotted. So discussion continues at https://www.railforums.co.uk/posts/6709055/bookmark

Ticket machines: Why has QWERTY been abandoned?

How about the remove the German then?

Ticket machines: Why has QWERTY been abandoned?

I would like both the ABC version and the local one. Nothing like choice. On the Hamburg TMVs I can select English. The option to select German doesn't appear on the Guildford TMVs. In fact a lot of Asian students study at the University of Surrey and the TMVs don't offer Chinese. So if we...

Ticket machines: Why has QWERTY been abandoned?

Or simply do it faster once you reach the TMV. I do occasionally buy walk up tickets the night before but usually when I'm passing through the station and there is a risk because what if the journey doesn't happen the next day..... I happily use eTickets for advance purchase journeys, for...

Ticket machines: Why has QWERTY been abandoned?

If they recommend both, why do the machines not have both? That would stastify many more people. 1712081617 I don't have a car, so wouldn't be walking from a car park to the station.

Had to break through unmanned barriers at Burgess hill tonight

That is of course speculation and a suggested change. Whereas it isn't like that now. A journey to one north London station might have different rules to another, so it isn't straight forward. Given what my mobile phone can do, I do wonder if the current routing guide system could make it to a...

Ticket machines: Why has QWERTY been abandoned?

Until they allow one to buy e-tickets without a journey planner being involved, I will continue to use TMVs as they are the fastest way for me to buy walk up train tickets.

Ticket machines: Why has QWERTY been abandoned?

So have the TMV manufacturers done user test studies with customers to test this out? Where I work they started doing user testing with members of the public to get feedback. Some software I use is moving to the cloud, and the company did some proto testing with myself and colleagues to better...

Ticket machines: Why has QWERTY been abandoned?

There really should be a choice. It's not difficult. I can't remember what the layout is at the Guildford TMVs. Which keyboard will most people make the least number of mistakes? And if someone doesn't know QWERTY, with mistake corrected, could they still type in a reference or station name? If...

No working toilet on the train.

What about trains that have toilets out of service but the stock is being used on a route that usually has rolling stock with no toilets? You also get routes where they use to be toilets but then due to wider rolling stock issues they switch to units with no loos on board. I also got caught...

Had to break through unmanned barriers at Burgess hill tonight

Next time I'm there I will have to check as I hadn't noticed it. Now that the train services from Guildford to Gatwick Airport are broadly better, I don't change at Redhill so often.

Had to break through unmanned barriers at Burgess hill tonight

No between 1995 and 1999 when I was at Oxford Brooks University but I have visited Oxford from time to time since then. 1712008337 That may be what I was thinking of but that still counts as an exit, even if for just part of the day. 1712008491 Where is the secondary exit at Redhill? I seem to...

I am sure the platform over the footbridge had an exit. I'm going back to the 1990s.

Had to break through unmanned barriers at Burgess hill tonight

Oxford Station use to have two entrances if I recall correctly and when they put barriers in, they closed one entrance. So option 1. When London Waterloo got barriers the subway was closed outside of defined peak hours. Semi-option 1. Now days it is open at all times, as far as I can tell...
