We've had some Soccer specials mentioned on the Forum but a Ruggex ran this weekend for the Scotland v Wales 6 Nations. Outward on Friday from Carmarthen to Edinburgh outward via Marches, Crewe WCML thence calling at Motherwell and forward thence via Coatbridge and Falkirk Grahamston. The return tomorrow starts Motherwell thence to Edinburgh and forward normal route via Carstairs. Loco working Friday was 68024.

Showing my age - I can remember when there'd be four or five. Class 47 to Crewe, 86 forward.

Those links are threads about a Northern depot - did you mean to post from real time trains?

I can go back further than that when I lived in Shrewsbury as a lad, I can remember going down to the station on the Sunday and seeing about 20 Return Excursions via the Marches passing through to various destinations in South and West Wales. There would be 7 via the HOWL all double headed (Steam days) with all sorts of combinations. One would see on the HOWL mixture of Class 5 Stanier 4-6-0 BR Standard 4--6-0 LM Class 8F 2-8-0 with a Fowler 2-6-4 Tank, WR 22xx 0-6-0 or WR 56xx 0-6-2T inside for steam heating. All the others via Hereford would chamge locos from LM to WR.

68024 on the return too.

Anybody know what stock was used? Included 1200, 3345 & 5985.

Mix of blue & grey with Anglia (?) blue not a good look!

Its a Riviera Trains rake, used on a variety of railtours and charter trains. I think they are aiming to have the whole set in blue/grey soon.

Here it is at Ealing Broadway on a Footex a few years back, 1200 is the buffet car in the centre in unusual colours:

They continued into privatisation, Great Western Trains running them using HSTs. Not sure whether they lasted into First Group days. I recall Great Western Trains had a unique form of Track Access Agreement for this purpose.
