A new "tap" (bar) for Oxford Road station!

Brilliant! Just a couple of points - wouldn't it have been better inside the station so you can stay dry before getting the train - and does it have toilets (if not - better to be inside and closer!). Also looks a bit on the small side but so does Victoria Tap. I'll be calling ASAP, maybe even tomorrow, hope the bar thrives!

Here in Greater Manchester commuters are rejoicing at the latest pub opening, which happens to be a brand new craft beer spot at Manchester Oxford Road. The new spot sits opposite the train station's entrance, taking residence in what was previously the cycle hub and a small cafe.

Oxford Tap as you may have guessed from the name comes from the people behind Piccadilly Tap on Piccadilly Approach and Victoria Tap, which opened at Victoria Station last October.

The team behind the much-loved station-approach boozers teased the news on Instagram with a new Oxford Road Tap account back in February. The post didn't give much away, but simply read: "Great beer is just a few steps away... #OxRdTap".

I'm hoping to pop in in a bit so I'll report back.

I'll be interested to see if it's good. My normal waiting room is in The Salisbury but I'm always up for variety.

Can never remember if the Salisbury is cash or card only!

Up the road the Oxford has train times info screen, which is helpful, hope the Tap has too, think the on at Victoria has!

Never much cared for the Salisbury, decent beer but it always seemed to be packed, sweaty and playing deafening heavy rock music whenever I've been in. Oxford Road badly needs a decent craft beer outlet for more discerning rail travellers changing trains there so I look forward to giving the Oxford Tap a try.

I would argue Oxford Road needs a cut-through from the Peveril of the Peak, but that is beyond even a fantasy thread.

This thread is awaiting a lot of reports, more reporters than the MEN.

Maglev from the Oxford Road concourse to the Briton's Protection via the Peveril. I'll get the crayons out.

Now the music is why I like it :D
Make it a circular maglev and you can pass through the site of Deansgate station and close the current station. That will solve some of the Castlefield Corridor problems into the bargain.

With the number of cancellations on Northern at the moment, there is ample time for a visit to the Britons Protection, the Pev and the Oxford Tap. The more energetic can get up and down to The Salisbury.

Just called in, 5pm today, and unfortunately although there were staff in, they weren't serving "sorry", furniture was all over the place, didn't hang around to find out why so try again next time!

Now in the Lass O'Gowry courtesy of the indoor heated moving walkway direct from Oxford Road.

Or at least a tiny bit of scaffolding protecting us from the rain!

As for the Salisbury, what we need is one of them cliff-top rail things you see at Bournemouth. Those steps can be tretchorous in wet, icy or had too many weather.

Closed for improvements today according to the sign outside.

I got off a direct train back home as well. Not overly impressed!

Must be run by Northern, 24 hours late!

Just as an aside they also have a train indicator board at Piccadilly Tap (just popped in for educational purposes) therefore I imagine Oxford Road will have one.

From a quick glance there may be a toilet inside Ox Rd Tap but need it to be open to see.

Can't recall it being a bike shed? Anyhow if these station Taps are a success, there's room at Bolton for one!

Can anyone visiting please report what cider or ciders they have, guest or permanent? I might be in the area soon and I'd like to know if they've got anything interesting; can't make out anything from the photos.

Popped in last night, very warm and cosy! No TV or slot machines (brilliant!) the only downside was the toilet was blocked so the ones on the station had to be used. Good ale too!

The Tap needs to be outside the barriers to maximise footfall. Anyway it never rains in Manchester...

It's an old cafe, the rest of the hut is still a bike shed for rail workers.

They had some problems getting some of the required permissions , but were anxious to open before Christmas and it opened at 4pm on 12th Dec. One or two issues occurred which necessitated the closure on 17th and minor tweaks are still taking place.

4 rotating cask beers on, and around 8 taps for keg beers. The Trans Manc Express Helles beer on tap is their house beer and is Thornbridge Lukas rebadged (this is also on at the Picc and Vic Taps).

Can anyone visiting please report what cider or ciders they have, guest or permanent?

I did note a bag in box cider available on Saturday but can't remember what it was. It was on the shelf at the back of the bar. May also have something on tap?

Normal opening hours are Mon 1-11; Tues-Fri 12-11; Sat 11-11 and Sun 11-10. They may tweak these after a while in the light of experience.

Over the festive period 24th-27th- closed; 28th 11-11; 29th 11-10; 30th 11-9; 31st and 1st - closed

Hope this helps.

Definitely on my list of railway Taps. I visited York Taps as posted elsewhere on Dec 22nd and it was good. Apparently there is a beer on railways tour/itinerary available which includes Stalybridge and Huddersfield too.
