East Midlands Trains has just introduced Advance ticket alerts, whereby you can register to receive an email to let you know when Advance tickets go on sale for the day you want to travel.
Virgin East Coast has offered this facility for a number of years (since before Virgin took on the franchise, in fact). Does anyone know which other train operators offer Advance ticket alerts?
As far as I can make out, the only other TOCs to offer this facility are Greater Anglia and Hull Trains. It would appear that Great Western and (strangely) Virgin West Coast do not.
However, Thetrainline offers ticket alerts for (presumably) any journey for which Advance tickets are available. So if you are travelling with a TOC that does not offer ticket alerts, then I suppose the trick is to register for an alert with Thetrainline but then use the actual train operator's website to book the ticket (see the earlier thread on Thetrainline releasing Advance tickets before the TOC itself does at www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?p=2909547).
