Hi Everyone,

Im hoping you clever peeps can help me. Im moving to Lincolnshire (Langtoft), and my nearest Station is Stamford, however I will be commuting from Peterborough as the trains are far more regular.

I'll be using Great Northern Trains travelling around 7am, Im confused by the National Rail statement when looking at monthly season tickets:

"With this ticket, using National Rail services you can travel to / from the following London stations: Old Street [OLD], London Kings Cross [KGX], Moorgate [MOG]"

Does this mean I could Allight at Finsbury Park and take the Tube to Moorgate? Is that acceptable? Or does it mean I can Alight At Finsbury and Get the Overhead (GN5 Welwyn) line to Moorgate?

I actually work in Southwark Opposite the FT times so a walk from Moorgate is happily dooerble as I currently walk from Liverpool Street at the moment

Please advise id like to figure out my best route and sort out a plan of action.

Many thanks In advance.

This means you can use tube or rail to get to/from those stations.

In terms of the best route from Peterborough, it depends on cost vs speed as VTEC also stops there.

National Rail flexible tickets are valid by Tube as well as NR from Finsbury Park to Highbury and to King's Cross.
There is a specific local rule or "easement" which means that you can also use the Tube from King's Cross to either Old Street or Moorgate.
However, you cannot use the ticket to alight at other Tube stations such as Angel.

In practice, from FPK the direct GN service to Moorgate would normally be quicker than tube.

As you probably know, season tickets limited to Great Northern trains only are much cheaper (about £110 per month) than the "Any Train" ones but the journey is slower. Some trains are faster than others though - the 7.15 from Peterborough gets to Kings X at 08.23 (I join it at Stevenage).

Your other option for travel is a ticket to Blackfriars (pick up a Thammeslink train from St Pancras) and a nice walk along the river. This would add about £30 per month to your ticket price but it's worth it to avoid the Northern Line or the Finsbury Park - Moorgate stretch (both are hideously overcrowded). I work on Southwark Street so this is what I do.

Have you looked into parking at Peterborough? It's £13 per day at the station but you can get a monthly ticket for £170 - still quite a hit though.

If the sentence in the post 30907 refers to which states "Note that any route restriction still applies, for example a ticket routed 'Not Underground' or 'FCC Only' would not be valid as appropriate." is relevant here, then a "GT NORTHERN ONLY" Peterborough-London season ticket wouldn't be valid on the underground from Kings Cross or Finsbury Park.

A "GTNORTHRN&CONCTS" March-London season ticket would be valid on other services (Stamford-London would also work, but it's a bit dearer). It's also valid via Cambridge, if that's of any use to you.

If you're looking for an annual season ticket, it may be worth going to Huntingdon to buy it so it's printed on a Gold Card ticket (which gives a number of additional benefits) rather than a blue one (which doesn't).

And, congratulations OP for moving to Langtoft. I lived there for all of my teenage years and you don't see it mentioned in any forum very often!

Whereabouts in the village will you be living?

Hello everyone..

Firstly thank you all very much for you replies, all the info given is really helpfull!!

Ive decided that cost vs time is a big factor so decided, via the bank manager (the Mrs) to use Virgin, as thats a significant difference in travel time!

Not sure what to do with the Kings cross to Southwark bridge element, I may trial kings cross to Moorgate and also the kings cross to Blackfriars journey before fully committing.

Its frustrating that Virgin dont allow to pay for season tickets with company cheque as it stops me from using the company loan? is there a reason for this??

@essexGonzo thanks!! Looking forward to moving for now we are moving to Aquila Way, long term get some land and build.. Have family in Market Deeping and Truesdale Gardens (round the corner) so its a great move for the family (just a longer commute for me live in chelmsford, essex at the mo

Is this really the case? If so I'm surprised given the numbers that commute on VTEC.

You could purchase from a station operated by another company (eg. Huntingdon, Stamford, St Pancras)
