Ok, to put it very simply, due to my age, do I stand a realistic chance of TOCs accepting me for a trainee Drivers job. - Some personal background, 47 years of age - 6 years army, 25 years Police - recently retired from the police, Sergeant. Consider myself physically fit for age.
I am fully aware that you need to be over 21 to apply, and that fitness / tests permitting you can keep driving till your turn old and grey and everyone calls you pops - I'm also aware employers shouldn't discriminate against age unless they are exempt etc - But when push comes to shove, lie and recruiting is often about money, investment and returns, so whilst a prospective employer is unlikely to admit they have a cut off recruitment age, many will for understandable reasons often work to one unofficially.
So, my real question is, for those that have started trainee drivers courses in the last year or two, what was the age spread on your course and in particular, was their anyone 45 plus.
Politely, don't need to hear about you can apply, age shouldn't be a problem, my mates a driver and he's 60 - just really want to hear about what's happening with recruitment on the ground, what's the average age range of those physically starting courses / recently joining depots etc.
