I raised a query to Southern recently as I inadvertently selected an e-ticket for an Advance ticket (2 singles to make a return journey) and of course you can't amend e-tickets online like you can with a Collect On Departure. I raised this to Southern that it seems quite restrictive, especially as they charge £10 to do it at the Ticket Office. This was my question....
Thank you for the reply. Fully understand the rules about Advance tickets being non-refundable, so in a nutshell.....
Paper Ticket - can be moved to a new date Free of charge via the Manage My Tickets/Refunds section UNLESS the ticket has been collected from the machine.
E-ticket - can be moved to a new date but only at a Ticket Office at a charge of £10 per ticket (which considering the Order number is for two £3 tickets is not worthwhile!)
Does this seem rather restrictive and not encouraging people to use E-Tickets for Advance Tickets?
They have now replied.........(and to me - seemed to have missed the point!)
Whilst there are no refunds on Advance tickets, in most cases you can change the time or date of travel at any National Rail Ticket Office, before the departure of the first reserved train printed on your ticket. This is for both paper and etickets. You’ll need to pay any difference between the fare you’ve already paid and the best available fare for your new journey, plus a £10 change of journey fee for each ticket changed.
Advance tickets can no longer be amended online. The online system which was previously used to do this is in the process of being shut down.
I hope this has helped, and you have a pleasant journey.
Nice to be notified that the Online system is being scrapped - so the only way to amend Advance tickets is to pay a £10 per ticket fee......which if you get a £6 Advance ticket seems pointless
