Defrag?...Strange it's got to be a prog slowing it down.

Just wonder what you have running and whether there is a rogue program or some sort of virus/trojan.

Bit of a long shot, but have you checked to see how much RAM Windows is registering? Goto into System Properties in Control Panel, it's possible that one of your RAM modules has blown.

Failing that, have you tried loading in safe mode?
