Hello,

I found a couple of local security jobs that are full time, and a SIA licence holder is preffered but training can be provided if you dont have one.
I have always wondered if the security department is good or not, but looking at G4S staff who go up to 70 year old staff i guess it isnt about having to be middle aged, big or tattoeed anymore? Suits me fine as i am none of that!

I am wondering though, what is involved in SIA training? I cant find much on that side of things. Does it involve throwing people out the window or pinning someone for an hour? I am not that strong, i can lift 2x25 kg of bags or boxes as i do this everyday, but i couldnt wrestle a hells angel member for any amount of time!!

Is it hard? Would it be worth going for?

Both my sons are SIA trained and neither throw anyone about and neither lift heavy items.

If you want some informnation PM me and I will get some for you.

Depends what line of work you want to go into, door work, security at educational places, security at shopping centres, let me know and I will lask them

You will find the standard SIA license badge issued to people who take and pass the standard course has a blue stripe at the right hand side of the badge, but those with the extra training for certain functions such as door staff, etc, where extra training is given on the training course to cover extra eventualities, are given a badge with an orange stripe at the right hand side. The validity is three years at the present time and there can be differing CRB checks dependant upon the position to be filled. I had to take and pass the course level to the "orange" stripe category as part of the final Consultancy project that I was concerned with prior to my retirement and my licence is still valid until 30 June 2012.

There is a forum member called stigy who is very well versed in this matter.

I would suggest that you look on the website of The Security Industry Authority, as much information about the Security Industry and the requirements for serving security officers can be found on there.

I have got an SIA Licence, there are two main types for Front Line Security in non-management roles.

One is for run of the mill sites involving gatehouse duties or office blocks etc.

The second is for "Door Supervisors" what would have been a bouncer.

There is also a CCTV Licence.

For the basic licence it is quite easy to pass mainly h&s with a bit of conflict management done in a week with the exam at the end - was multiple choice.

Once you have the licence it is renewed every three years.

The government did say it was going to abolish the SIA so could change.
