Hello all.

I do hope everyone is safe and well in these most challenging times? After suffering from the old email hackers, I am back on the rails, so to speak. My questions relate to the above systems and the INTIS systems before them. I once upon a time had a full list of all INTIS and APTIS machine locations. Even including the window numbers of each station/location. Arranged in station/NLC order etc. So for example, Middlesbrough has the NLC code of 7929? and when the APTIS machines arrived Middlesbrough had 6 windows, E1, E2, E3, E4, E5 & E6. This was the same for the stations that received the system. Likewise I had a similar list for INTIS. Both lists also had the added bonus of listing travel centres both in stations and high street retailers along with head office and backstage locations. I was therefore, hoping someone maybe able to point me in the direction of similar lists. I do have lists for London Underground UTS system ticketing machines if anyone would like a copy sent to them. Many thanks in advance.

Stay safe.

Kind regards.

Lee-James.

This is why being a transport enthusiast is so amazing.

Presumably there's no such thing as the "Supermarket Till Receipt Society", or the "Association of Council Tax Statement collectors"

Probably not.

Although there are keen collectors of shop Gift Cards.

Notable - I found some WHSmiths gift vouchers from the late 1970s when clearing out a relatives possessions (denominations of £1, £2 and £3 IIRC) never used. I'd been wondering if the shop would still honour them but might be better to donate them to such collectors...

There is a list linked to from Wikipedia of APTIS machines as at 2004 here

Hello there.

This is the very first page of the very list I was looking for. The link on here, well on my iPad at least, only shows the first page. Is there a link which has the whole list with it? Many thanks for sharing the link though .

Kind regards.

If you’re interested in rail tickets, take a look on here:

Hello there.

I have recently rejoin the society after a 15 year gap. However, the list I am looking for, I am not 100% sure I got it from them. ag51ruk has found a link to the first page of the very same list which I am looking for. Many thanks for replying though .

Kind regards.

Hi - I would be interested if anybody had any further information on INTIS as despite looking I have always found very little info on it compared with APTIS; as a kid I remember INTIS was in place at Milton Keynes Central when it opened in 1982 - I vaguely seem to remember that behind the windows of the ticket offices on the main concourse there was a huge rack of pre-printed inserts - which would make sense. For some reason the Travel Centre at MKC never used INTIS instead from recollection all tickets were on the hand written ticket pads (they used to put carbon in between them and they were yellow and red from my memory). I left MK in 1986 and by the time I returned in 1988 APTIS reigned supreme in the ticket office and travel centre.

My presumption therefore is that INTIS was little more than a glorified "cash register" where the clerk input the fare information manually and then I seem to remember they pushed the inserts into the side of the machine to print on the ticket details. Would just be interested if anyone has a little more detail on INTIS and whether my presumptions that it held no actual fares data were right.

Thanks in advance

Apologies for resurrecting an oldish thread during my browsing today, but The Transport Ticket Society (of which I am a member - unashamed "plug" :D) has published an in-depth three-part publication on INTIS: history, technical specifications, ticket stock, issuing locations etc. It can be purchased in printed format by non-members, or members of the society can download PDF copies from our website.

Broadly speaking, INTIS was a bit more sophisticated than a cash register, but worlds away from APTIS. The details above by GB71 are correct.

Separately, I was one of the three people responsible for maintaining the APTIS machine lists mentioned above, on behalf of the Society. They were again based on an earlier publication which is available in the Society's electronic library/archive.

As APTIS and post-APTIS is my main interest, one day I might get around to writing an equivalent "Encyclopaedia of APTIS"... maybe after I retire...!!

Hi - sorry trying to do 2 things at once. Hassocks5489 could you provide a link to where I can purchase a copy of the publication. Looked on the website but couldn't find it. Thanks

I've just contacted our Publications Secretary to find out what the procedure is, then I'll drop you a private message on here  (probably after I get back from the supermarket!)
