Hi,
I'm planning a trip across to the Isle of Arran and have a shortish connection time between train arrival (1736) and ferry departure (1800) - the ferry has to be boarded ten minutes before departure. I would like to know how far the ferry terminal is from the station and would there be any problems buying the ferry tickets on the day ? Perhaps it may be wiser to buy a "Rail and Sail" ticket from Glasgow to avoid any last minute problems ? Regarding the "Rail and Sail" ticket, can this be purchased at any National Rail station or only from those run by Scotrail ?

Thanks,
Z

Very easy connection to make, as already said it's almost right next to the station. Arrive at xx36 and you'll be there ready to board at xx40 even if walking slowly.

It's a decent enough trip on the ferry, good food available from the restaurant too. Tons of Stagecoach buses run all over the island so everywhere's easy to get to.

Very easy connection though the timings for some of the sailings are quite tight if there are any delays (though the timings for the departure you mention are quite generous). I was on the mid-afternoon sailing caught the train from Glasgow an hour earlier (which also suited my arrival time in Glasgow) & was already on the boat when the official connecting train arrived (though there was a long queue of foot passengers as it was the day before the Easter weekend in 2011 when East Coast still ran the 07:19 from Stevenage through to Glasgow Central).
The buses at Brodick all meet/wait for the boat.
I recall that I had booked the return ticket from Glasgow to Brodick via the East Coast website. I split the fare in Glasgow with an EC 1st advance (as the advance fare jumped to a stupid price if I booked through to Ardrossan in a single ticket & it would only let me select Brodick for tickets starting from Scottish stations.
I just showed the rail ticket to Brodick when boarding the boat - they retained the outward portion.
