Does anyone know if a supplement (station access fee) applies for Interrail pass holders for either entering, or exiting (or both) at Arlanda Central station?

For holders of regular singles/returns, which wouldn't be valid on Arlanda Express, there is a supplement payable to access the airport. But an Interrail pass holder could go via Stockholm Central, then back to the airport on the express, thus not incurring any additional fee, so it wouldn't make sense to charge someone a fee for simply 'finishing short. But is that the case?

There's a 130sek access fee for entering the station, if this fee is not already included within the cost of your ticket. There is a kiosk available to pay the supplement. With Interrail, you will most likely have to pay if you wish to exit/enter the station, though you could go eg stockholm-arlanda-stockholm for free.

I've never been charged this. When I travelled through there a few weeks back, the bloke just squinted at the pass for a while then let me through.

Equally - no extra charges on the Arlanda Express. All the checks on that service are done onboard.

Bear in mind that the Arlanda Express uses different (ungated) stations.

Same experience here. When I explained I had an Interrail pass, I was asked by the member of staff whether this was valid on "all the trains in the world". Evidently they didn't have a lot of experience, as I imagine there must be a fair volume of Interrail passengers at a major airport like this.

In the hope of avoiding the charge, and not wishing to overcomplicate things, I replied yes; they then let me through without paying the 130 SEK fee. I hope there isn't an equivalent of RoRA in Sweden

It would certainly be rather silly if you had to pay a fee to exit at Central, when an Interrail pass entitles you to circulate to the Arlanda N (T5) or S (T2/3/4) stations via Stockholm for free - including on the otherwise pricey Arlanda Express (320 SEK ≈ £24 one-way!).

Yes, the station fee has to be paid by everyone that uses Arlanda C.

No, rules don't have to make sense.

It's a fee for going through the gates I believe. If you have a travelcard (i.e. a 24/72/168 hour pass etc) you can travel through the station as well as get on and off trains and remain on the platforms, but if you want to go through the barriers you have to pay, I was told.

But if Interrail is valid on Arlanda Express then it doesn't make sense to charge the fee at Arlanda C. (And the "cheapskate" route via bus to Märsta would cost more!)

In short, Interrail is valid on Arlanda Express, for which there is no supplementary station access fee. You could choose to take SL, SJ or Vy Norrland Nattåg trains to Arlanda Central, but you would technically be liable for the 130kr station access fee. Sounds like others have had this waived, but I wouldn’t expect that to work every time.

I managed to enter there without being charged a fee, and someone else exited. In both cases any such fee would have just been to avoid a double back, so common sense was applied in our case :)

However later this week I need to get from Stockholm to the airport but only have a 72 hour public transport ticket; are there any affordable options such as a bus from a station near the airport, or an extension fare on commuter rail, does anyone know please?

There is. Commuter train to Märsta and a bus from there.
