Basingstoke to Edinburgh - restriction 9F

Planning to travel from Basingstoke to Edinburgh on Good Friday using a super off peak single, any permitted route, restriction 9F.

Restriction 9F states in the notes section that ‘Customers must not travel on CrossCountry services before 09:30.’ It then later states ‘Restrictions will be eased between Friday 18th April 2025 and Monday 21st April 2025 in both directions.’

My question is does the easement apply to the Cross Country restriction stated in the notes and hence can I take a Cross Country service before 09:30 due to 18/04 being a bank holiday?

Welcome to the forum.

If there were any limitations to the Bank Holiday easement (e.g. that the easement only applied to one specific operator, or at a specific station), it would have to be stated in the text. That is the case for the easement on Thursday 17th April, for example - this is stated as only applying for trains departing Kings Cross and Stevenage.

Having a more general easement on Friday 18th April seems entirely intentional, as Bank Holidays have long been considered equivalent to weekends when it comes to rail ticket restrictions (in other words, there are normally no restrictions).

Therefore, for your particular example, you can take any CrossCountry service on the 18th, and you aren't restricted to travelling after 09:30.
