Berwick Upon Tweed to Newcastle Off Peak Return Saturday 17th May

Looking for some flexibility doing a return from Berwick to Newcastle on Saturday 17th May - haven't done the trip for about a year but proving remarkably difficult.
Off peak return appears limited to Trans-Pennine services only which means I can't get a train leaving Berwick between 9am and 10am.
Similarly, looking to come back sometime after 6pm but the various booking sites are either saying train sold out or tickets not valid on LNER or X Country.
Can I no longer just buy an off-peak return valid for any train?
If available, how do/can I buy one?
Thanks

Thre is a Any Permitted Off-Peak Single for £19.80, which have no restrictions on weekends

This is what the Forum ticketing website will sell you on the 1012 LNER

Ah, hadn't thought about 2 x singles, thanks.
Realised LNER had stopped returns but I was able to get an off peak return any operator last summer.

Are you sure you weren't issued with 2 x singles, one each way?

No, don't think so - I put a question up about the tickets last year as I'd been forced to make seat reservations so checked it was any train available.

Memory plays strange tricks - was convinced it was an off peak return - apologies!
