Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had suggestions of the best route from Nottingham to Newark Northgate. I am looking at a potential job at Newark Industrial Estate (Northern Road). I will need to get to NIE for 9 o'clock. Trainline timetables suggest leaving around six or earlier to get there on time! There seems to be more trains going to Newark Castle station - maybe there are good bus links from this station towards the NIE?

Your suggestions would be much appreciated!

There is only one railway line from Nottingham to Newark, so there is no option when it comes to routes. There are no other routes that could feasibly be used.

As for Castle to Northgate, I cycled it in about 4 minutes a few days ago, perhaps a folding bike may be a good solution to take on the train? Failing that, it's about a 15-20 minute walk. There is a riverside path you can take or alternatively it's a fairly straightforward walk. Google or Bing maps can give you a route.

However if you are going to the Industrial Estate, I'd have thought you would not go past Northgate station and would instead go along Sleaford Road.

G'day

There is a train from Nottingham at 06:53 arriving Newark Castle at 07:28.
The next train is at 08:05 from Nottingham arriving Newark Castle at 08:40, which should get you to work by 09:00 or you could borrow Yorkie's bike.

Cheers

Many thanks for your replies!

I've been given more info and it looks like (if I get the job!) I will need to be there for 08:30 (waaay to early).

Google maps suggest it is a 27 min walk from the Newark Castle station to Northern Road. This would be fine on days when I am not on heels and the weather is nice. There don't seem to be frequent buses between these locations either. I have never cycle before, but I might have to start doing so now as transport links don't seem that great.

Or will have to learn to drive, which I don't particularly fancy. Oh well.

Thank you all again.

Looks like it'll be the 0653 from Nottingham then, arriving 0726. Unfortunately the next train doesn't arrive till 0840.

Have you tried Traveline? They include all forms of public transport so you can put your home & work postcodes in to plan a journey.

IME Google Maps is quite generous with time, especially as you'll probably find short cuts which it doesn't know (it only shows routes on a road).

knowing Newark, I don't think there'd be any shortcuts in the town centre, but the Industrial Estate may be a different matter

Thanks LexyBoy, will try Traveline. Looks like a ridiculously early start in any case!

Rather than walk there in heels, why not wear flats with heels in your handbag to change into?
