I'm travelling to Weymouth in the Spring with my bike and have booked some tickets however its come to light that on the second leg of the journey i can't reserve my bike.
Cross Country has booked my bike both ways to Basingstoke and return from Southampton but my problem lyes with South West trains who have said i have to ask at the window when i get there to see availability.

Well, if I get to Basingstoke and and can't get my bike on then i'm completely stuffed and my holiday in Jersey will be ruined because of ferry timings in Weymouth.
Also then I have to travel from Weymouth to Southampton on return and the same applies.
This is very risky though I arrive in Basingstoke out of peak time they said its unlikely BUT possible.
I have recently travelled from London to Winchester on the same train (London to Weymouth) and booked my bike on so can't understand why suddenly you can't book.
Any views on this is appreciated

Welcome to the forum.

You are asking about taking a bike on a train from Basingstoke to Weymouth?

Weymouth to Southampton is highly unlikely to be an issue, as the train commences at Weymouth. Try to get there early and you should have no issues getting your bike on.

You've not stated the time of the train, nor day of the week, so we can't really say how busy the train is likely to be, nor check if it's reservable or not...

SWT's cycle policy can be found here.

This bit here maybe of interest to the OP:
If you are travelling on our London Waterloo to Salisbury/Exeter/Bristol services you will need to reserve a space for your cycle. You can reserve a cycle space at any staffed station or through our Customer Service Centre. Please book at least 24 hours in advance of travel.

This would suggest you cannot reserve a cycle space on services to Weymouth.

No problems/need to reserve either way. Just get on the train and shove it in the rack.

The usual trains on that side have space for 6 bicycles per unit, which becomes 12 if run in multiple. I'd find it unlikely that they'd all be in use so you shouldn't have problems but obviously doesn't hurt to reserve a space if possible ;).

Should be no problem at all then!

These trains are not reserveable.
