I’m a budding real ale and cider taster*, anyone recommend a good online retailer or direct link to a brewery that delivers please?

Recommendations of drinks would be much appreciated.

If CAMRA approved, all the better. I don’t mind paying postage/delivery fees, I’m challenged by lack of time (as an FE college tutor) and a car.

* I say faster because you’ll never see me drunk but I like to try new things and I’m fairly new to this.

Most breweries will deliver.
I definitely recommend Adnams of Southwold in Suffolk. I’ve had regular deliveries from them and they are quite reasonably priced too. Castle Rock Brewery in Nottingham also very good with free delivery on orders over £55. For a real wide variety if you want to try lots of different beers The Real Ale Store in Newark on Trent, Nottinghamshire with free delivery for orders over £65 is worth considering.

Weston's of Much Marcle are one of the largest of the reputable* cider and perry makers, who supply in bottles and in boxes (a plastic bag in a cardboard outer). I usually buy their bottles from supermarkets, but a friend who often has boxes gets them delivered directly. Delivery is also handy for their perry, which can be hard to find in supermarkets (though I think Waitrose own-brand perry is probably Weston's).

*i.e. excluding the heavily advertised mass-market stuff.

My local brewery in the West Midlands, Black Country Ales, do home deliveries, and you can order from their website

They also do spirits brewed from beer.

During lockdown I was getting the Beer 52 selection box each month, you can get various introductory offers I think. Since cancelled it because most of the large supermarkets now have a similar quality of interesting beer available.

Telstarbox beat me to it but I was going to say don't overlook the supermarkets. They'll deliver too, of course.

There's nothing like a hand pulled pint in a pub though.

I've been buying beer from Siren Craft Brew near Reading for a few years now.

Works for me! Never had any problem with deliveries or their service.

I did buy a box of ale from Fownes Brewery during lockdown 1.0 though i don't know if they still are offering this service.

Anyway if they do, very recommended.

We have bought Dark Side of the Moose from Purple Moose Brewery at Porthmadog.
They brew several other ales too, all good quality.
Delivered to North Wales on the 3rd day.
Excellent service.

If your love of beer extends to Craft Beer, you've got some brilliant craft breweries around Manchester.

Cloudwater - https://shop.cloudwaterbrew.co/
Track - https://www.trackbrewing.co/collections/buybeer
Sureshot - https://sureshotbrew.com/shop/

I know you asked about deliveries, but if you're ever in the centre of Manchester (and like Indian street food), highly recommend visiting Bundobust - https://bundobust.com/.
Please may I also add Marble Arch brewery and pub to the list. 10 minutes walk from Manchester Victoria and their delivery service has never let me down.

When I saw the title of this thread I immediately thought: "Davenport's-Beer at Home!".
I'm pleased to say that they are still going strong, and will still deliver to your door, though I expect not from a dray lorry these days.

It's called
Asda

And you put it in your fridge for when you want it

Except if you buy it from any supermarket it will have been sitting around on a shelf at room temperature for possibly quite some time.

Not a problem for most beers, but if you like those so-called "hop forward" ultra hoppy/citrusy craft beers you need to keep them in the fridge and drink them fresh. The hop flavours fade otherwise.

Much better to buy direct from a brewery (or a pub!) if you can, rather than further boosting the profits of large supermarket chains.

For many many years, I always drank the same small range of beer. Supermarkets were excellent for meeting this need.

Then I happened to walk into the craft beer and bottle shop in Perth ... now I drink probably a couple of hundred different beers a year.

To be fair supermarkets these days do stock a decent selection of ales, though its pretty easy to get through them all and the stock rotation is pretty slow if you want to try something different.

If you want a wide range of excellent beers, including some weird and wonderful limited editions, try Vocation

Indeed they do.
In an idle moment in my local Waitrose recently, I counted 66 different 500ml bottles of beer. They stock local breweries too.
That's in addition to the canned craft lagers and mainstream multi-packs and cider.

Beers of Europe in Norfolk do a great range of bottled/canned beers from around the world for home delivery.

If you're getting booze delivered to your door I would recommend not telling the neighbours. If you're out when it gets delivered you'll come home to bottle tops and empties and they'll be stotting about miraculous at your expense.

They're hardly going to leave it on the doorstep are they.

During lockdown when the pubs were closed ,I did my bit to support various breweries , some local some not. They included - Great Newsome , Hopshackle , Eyam , Howardtown , Little Valley , Brew 61 , Bank Top and others. The best delivery time was the local Woodcote Brewery , ordered 15.15 , delivered 17.00 the same day !
