Good morning

I have an annual gold card including zones 1-6

I will be travelling from Victoria to Redhill (which is outside zone 6)

I wish to purchase Boundary zone 6 - redhill to cover the extra distance

My query is about off peak validity

If I was to travel on the 09:09 from Victoria to Redhill on a weekday this arrives at redhill at 09:38. Off peak pricing only applies 09:30 onwards and the ticket type mentions this is on the departing time (which station?). The train leaves East Croydon at 09:26 (zone 5) and will cross the boundry after 09:30. Is off peak valid?

Thanks

The Boundary Zone 6 to Redhill Off-Peak Day Return is indeed valid from 09:30 onwards*. The 09:09 Victoria to Reigate service is timed to pass Coulsdon South, the last station in Zone 6, at 09:32. Therfore I would say that this ticket combination is valid.

* Not all off-peak tickets are valid from 09:30. The time depends on the origin and destination of the ticket.

I agree with maniacmartin; you switch from one ticket to the other at Coulsdon South and therefore the combination is valid.

There is no requirement for the train to call at Coulsdon South (as defined in Condition 14 of the National Rail Conditions of Travel).

I did this journey yesterday (albeit later in the day) and it's £3.10 with Gold Card discount. The Southern ticket machines at Victoria will sell you the ticket, so you don't have to queue at the ticket office if there's a long queue.

I'd tried to buy the ticket earlier in the day at St Pancras, but neither East Midlands or Southeastern TVMs there support the "tickets from another station" feature.

Thanks all. It is a bit of a weird one as it doesn't stop at the boundary but I am going to assume its valid and have the discussion if required.

Nice tip re: Victoria ticket machines, I will probably buy online and collect from another ticket machine (that's how I often work around that issue of tickets from other stations)

If exactly one of the tickets is a season ticket, there train does not need to call at the station where you change tickets. Also, you can't buy Boundary Zone tickets online

Very true but if I buy a ticket from Coulsdon South To Redhill its essentially the same thing and I can do that online I believe

FYI the GN branded TVMs near the suburban gateline at Kings Cross sells tickets from other destinations, including BZ6 :)
