When l think what happened in Afghanistan this week is very crazy, until l found a guy who travels to Afghanistan for tourism on Friday.....
There is clear evidence that he is not joking, who is a British, a Loughborough University student.
I have nothing to say after read the news.

I can only posted the screenshots because the original post on 4channel has been deleted.

Miles Routledge, 22, who has a 4chan account, alleges he has been abandoned by the British Embassy and told worried pals on Facebook: "I'm in a bit of a pickle."

He claims he is now hiding out in a United Nations safehouse in Kabul after apparently trying to flee the war-torn city several times, according to The Spectator.
A student who travelled to Afghanistan after Googling ’most dangerous countries to visit’ has become stuck after the Taliban marched into the Kabul.

Miles Routledge, 22, thought it "was going to be fine" to head to the dangerous destination as he was "under the impression that the country wouldn’t fall for another month".

But just two days into his trip, the Taliban marched into the capital and all flights out of the city were cancelled, leading the unlucky Loughborough University student to write on Facebook: "I'm stuck in Afghanistan. Bit of a pickle."

What is the betting that, after soldiers have probably had to risk their lives to get him out, he will sell his ‘My Afghanistan Hell’ story to one of the newspapers. He appears to either have or been using the middle name Le-vesconte on his Facebook/Twitter or whatever it is page: I can think of a similar word to describe my opinion of him. An MP in fifteen years, if he survives?

He could go more appropriately attired, for instance wearing a kilt (and not much else below the waist) and cram up on 'Carry on' films. It worked for Sir Sidney Ruff-Diamond's troops.

However, I take absolutely no responsibility if it goes disastrously wrong!

Stupid suggestion? Of course, about as stupid as going on holiday to Afghanistan when US and British troops were in place.

If he is lucky, he will be paraded in front of the TV cameras, given some stuff to read about how he apologies to the Afghan people and their faith, and let go after a few weeks (I hope his parents have got deep pockets, after all he is a 'Lord'). And for goodness sake, he needs to wipe that stupid grin off his face. Where he goes to, no idea, none of the countries in that area seem particularly sympathetic.

There are an awful lot of people in Afghanistan at the moment who I am really concerned about, I don't know their names but I am confident that none are called 'Miles'.

what a throbber. The worst thing about all this is that he now has to be extracted increasing the hassle for the embassy staff and potentially making it harder for someone else to get out.

No doubt he will be in the Mail or the Express telling everyone about his adventures.

Well we've all been there... actually no we haven't as most of us have a little more sense!

A Birmingham student is "stuck in Afghanistan" after travelling there for a holiday shortly before the Taliban takeover.

Miles Routledge, 21, from Birmingham, is a Loughborough University student who is now holed up in a United Nations safe house,

Idiot, perhaps if he wanted to visit dangerous places like this he should have enlisted.

That is generous, University of Loughborough needs to examines his qualifications, I'm surprised they accept imbeciles.

According to the Birmingham Mail piece quoted in #5, he's in a UN safe house; there are a hell of a lot of people that are more deserving of their help than that clown. However, they do need to wrap some gaffer tape at least five times round his mouth. Every time he opens it he stays something stupid and dangerous - if he's not going on about his religion (catholic), waving a crucifix and how he has adopted the prefix 'Lord', he is saying boasting that he likes risk and his is a banker (again in #5). Learn some humility - and quickly.

No, a financial advisor.

He'll be on the front page of the FT, how was he to know that investing his clients' billions in chocolate teapots was a disaster waiting to happen? Someone who knows a former PM had told him it was a rock solid certainty.

Looks like a Walter Mitty to me.

‘In a bit of a pickle’ could end up being quite the understatement!

No sympathy at all. He's a complete muppet and obviously not someone who'll learn a single thing from this.
Sadly, I worry that that that will not be true, my concern is that he will learn that when he is deep in the mire, he only needs to contact a few tabloid newspapers and someone will go the extra mile or ten to bail him out.

I tried to find out his background using an internet search, there are pages on him. He'll be on 'Big Brother', 'I'm A Celebrity ...', etc His LinkedIn page (I can only see a fragment) describes him as being 'Shanghai Investment Banking M&A Intern', if that is true, I wouldn't even trust him to make the coffee. Or as @DarloRich suggests he could be a Walter Mitty character - please, no, no life story mini-series. (Sorry I thought that was rhyming slang at first.)

There is a less sympathetic piece on RT (Lord Miles of Afghanistan: British student gets STUCK in Taliban-controlled Kabul, live-feeds his adventure in ‘weird country’ — RT UK News) which includes a picture of him with some heavy duty weapon and a union jack bulletproof vest or the like. How stupid can he be? From the same source he has written on his facebook page
"I've e-mailed the mental health people at lboro university so hopefully they can help me. ... I just wanted to this whole thing to be a little charity thing where I can explore a weird country but I've mentally broken down"
(My emphasis - don't play the charity card.) Now he knows how millions of Afghans feel, only they've had to live with it for years.

My cousin's married surname is Le Vesconte, though I know next to nothing of her husband's background.

Well, many "students" also will do some crazy things in holiday, such as someone traveled to North Korea and tried to steal political poster.

If he's literally refused to leave Afghanistan, then he rightfully should fend for himself.

Harsh, but they tried getting him out and he refused. Why should they waste anymore resources?

Looks like he got out safely, and says he's now in Dubai:

A UK student who travelled to Afghanistan on holiday says he is now safe in Dubai after being evacuated.

Miles Routledge, 21, of Birmingham, has been posting updates on social media about his travels since the Taliban seized control of the country.

He told the BBC he was "exhausted but relieved" and thanked the British Army who were deployed to support the evacuation of UK nationals from Kabul.

His university, Loughborough, said it had offered Mr Routledge its support.

The physics student shared on social media he chose Afghanistan because he enjoyed "dark" and "extreme" tourism.

I suspect this clown towner has achieved his ambition of getting some media coverage for his silly stunt. There is something fishy about this whole thing.

Just a thought, don't you need a visa to enter Afghanistan?
Would they grant one for 'Tourism'?

Although there have been some doubts placed on this, he claims to have been in Afghanistan. Afghanistan is a Red List country. The Foreign Office rules are
You should not travel to red list countries or territories.

Before travel to England

Before you travel to England you must:

On arrival in England

On arrival in England you must:

I'm not sure whether there is a sanction against travelling to Red List countries (after all, 'Air Miles' Ashok has been to several) but we make sure he abides by all the above and we put him in a hotel staffed by those who have had real hardship coming to this country. And we make sure he pays every penny (I am assuming we are not going to pay for his flight from the UAE). There are Afghans who worked for the forces in their country who are unlikely to get out, and there is this clown who has done nothing but 'want'. He likes extreme tourism, try the Arctic next year, we have no embassy up there but I gather there are plenty of Ruskies, Putin will doubtless be very helpful.

Only one thing comes to mind. End of a bell.

Stick him with a bill for a few thousand, to reflect the time and effort, plus airtrip, to get him out. Going to Afghanistan for “tourism” isn’t something a normal person would do. In terms of stupidity I’d consider it on a par with going to Syria during the height of the civil war.

I hear the polar bears are pretty hungry too.

From The Independent (‘Selfish’ UK student trapped in Kabul flown to safety by British Army (msn.com))

Seemingly unshaken by the tragedy unfolding in the country, Miles said he would set out for this adventure all over again if he got a chance.

“I have no regrets, I would do this all again. If I could back to myself on day one, I would go - Just trust yourself and you would be fine... you’re gonna be in hell but you’ve got Christ on you and he’s looking after you.

The UK Government has advised against all but essential travel to Afghanistan for more than two decades.
He's got that wrong, it is the British taxpayer that is looking after him. And probably a few Afghans that risked their lives helping him get to the airport.

HMG need to advise him that if he goes any further abroad that the Scilly Isles in future, he's on his own. He's a menace to himself and others; and may well need some mental help.

COVID red list aside, Afghanistan has presumably been on the FO’s list of countries to which travel is not advised. This should be strengthened to “consular assistance will only be given to those visiting with FO approval” ( ie no one at this end is stopping you going - but on your own head be it). Consular assistance should of course be rendered to tourists when the unexpected happens (natural disasters, sudden invasions, coups in previously peaceful countries as well as the more normal crime etc) and to people who have good reason to be in dangerous areas (accredited journalists, official aid workers etc) - but not to idiots like this, unless fully paid for by said idiot!

You used to, at least (and since c 1905 for Brits, at a guess). It was, IIRC, USD 50 in the mid-70s. And you could not get it at the border, only at a consulate in advance, though it was issued same day if you got in early.

I wonder if Christ would be looking after him if he went wandering through the minefields in Iraq?

Agreed. I see no good reason why imbeciles like him should take up even the back of someone’s mind when there are more deserving people there who need FO attention, like humanitarian workers, disabled rights activists, interpreters, etc, some of whom still remain (in danger) in Afghanistan.

I see he's learned nothing:

A BRIT who travelled to Afghanistan just as Kabul fell and had to be evacuated has now fled war-torn South Sudan after being threatened with violence.

Miles Routledge, 21, arrived in the North African country this week with a tent and tinned food to “teach memes”.
