Good day.
I have acceptes a job offer through stagecoach to train as a bus driver. I had applied for fgw trainee train driver but all positions filled before I got dm interviewed. I have left my hospitality roots to work in a similar industry. What are peoples thoughts on gaining similar experiences in the bus industry to give me a better application and interview examples?
Also does working for stagecoach count towards helping an application with south west trains who are operated by stagecoach?
Cheers for any input!!

The move from bus driver to traindriver (or guard) is a well worn path.

I dont think working for Stagecoach buses will make any difference although First Bus wouldnt allow the move (unofficially of course) in the Plymouth area.

Thanks 455. To me, being out of hospitality and into the bus industry bears a better chance to join the railway. So excited to have a new job offer after many applications either unsuccessful or forgotton about. Anyway, I ll keep plugging away :)

I work for said bus company and no there is no connection to emt or swt, I have just been through and passed the process with northern using many examples and parallels from my time driving buses/coaches
:)

Curious where you have applied if you live in York, Barnsley?

Loads of ex bus drivers at my depot. Seems quite a common theme.

Cheers for all the input people. Its only seems sensible to leave hospitality which offers very little if any relation and experience needed for the railway and take the bus offer in front of me to propell myself on track :)

Gets you working alone, dealing with passengers, thinking on your feet, making decisions, facing emergencies etc....
