Question about using a 60+ Oyster as part of a return train journey? For example London to Eastbourne.
Could one use 60+ Oyster at Victoria to get onto an Estbourne bound train and then travel on to Eastbourne non stop, having already bought an online return train ticket, on phone app, from Coulsden South, which is the outer edge of Oyster area I think, to Eastbourne ?
Without having to get off the train, swipe out with Oyster and then go back in with train ticket and no doubt wait for next train ? Same question on returning, will I be able to exit at Victoria with Oyster card, even though I didnt swipe in because boarded in Eastbourne?
Hope that makes sense.. Thanks

Yes, that's permitted - subject to the time restrictions on a 60+ Oyster. You're best off buying a ticket from Boundary Zone 6, which costs the same as a ticket from Coulsdon South - as that avoids any ambiguity over whether you are technically passing through Coulsdon South when travelling on the Quarry Lines (the slightly separate route taken by fast trains between East Croydon and Gatwick). Boundary Zone tickets can't be bought online at the moment, so you'll need to buy this at the ticket office or ticket machine.

Also worth noting that it may be cheaper to buy a ticket from Victoria/East Croydon (despite your 60+ Oyster covering this part of the journey), as there are good value Advances from these stations to Eastbourne.

There is no issue with touching out at Victoria without a corresponding touch in - non-stop splits from outwith the Zones are entirely permissible.

Or Purley, which is in the same zone as Coulsdon South but before the lines split.
