I don't know where to post this, so please move it if you feel I have posted it in the wrong place.

I can remember when I was back at primary school (I believe I was in Year 6, so it would have been 2005/2006), I watched a programe about trains. Unfortunatly the details I have are very vague, but I wonder whether anyone else remembers a programe being on around this time?

Unfortunately, I can't remember the channel, and as we had Sky at the time, it could have been one of many! I can't remember whether it was aimed at children, or whether it was a documentary that I watched (I'm thinking the later, but I could be wrong). I'm also not sure about how frequently it was on, but I have a feeling it was on every evening for a week or so. I remember it being on after school, so somewhere between 4pm and 6pm are the most likely times it was broadcast.

There is a memory of it that sticks in my head that will give you the most information, and that is the fact that I can remember it featuring a First Generation DMU. I didn't know about train classes then, but it was definatly an old DMU and I believe it was running at a heritage railway. It may have featured steam and diesel locos as well, but it is the DMU that I can remember.

Sorry I can't provide any more details. That is all I can remember.

Has anyone got any ideas of what the programe was called? Does anyone remember watching it?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Ryan

Pete Waterman did a four part miniseries on Channel 4 around that time, entitled "Trains with Pete Waterman", Discovery had "Mark Williams on the rails" and another two hander, the name of which escapes me at the moment.

Steve Power? One of the Marks then went on to have his own programme, Garden Railway.

It definitely wasn't those two as I watched them as well!

It might have been then. I've just found it on YouTube, so either way, I'll have a look at them.

I don't know whether I saw all of them. I might have only caught a few of them. All I can remember is this old DMU. I think it showed the cab and I'm sure the engine as well. If only I could remember a few more details, this would be far easier! :)

I've had a quick scan through and I can't see any first generation DMU. However, it appears that the series was longer than the 10 episodes uploaded. Does anyone have any information about the whole series, or any other suggestions?

Are any members old enough to remember a Rail drama programme probably from early 80's.
I think it was filmed at Keighley and also Carnforth and was set around the early 1960s when steam was still king but diesels were just coming into service.

From being used to the dark, smokey steam train environment a bright DMU entered the platform (Keighley?)
A trainspotter was caught by a pervy policeman bunking around the engine shed (Carnforth?), the policeman told him he was in trouble, but the problem could be sorted by not informing the lads mam and dad as long as he went into the office with the bobby. This may have been called Rule 9.
One can only assume what followed. :)

Might it have been a repeat of "The Train Now Departing". I think thats the correct name it was first on BBC2 and was a series showing the video equivelent of the past and present books. I only remember this becaused bumped into a BBC cameraman who had filmed quite a few of the past film as a hobby.

Thanks for the quick reply dyson, it was not The Train Now Departing as those programmes are more documentary whilst the prog I am talking about was a drama.

There was a kids programme called 'The Flockton Flyer', filmed on the WSR.
Mostly a 64xx pannier IIRC in that one though.

Balamory featured people who worked on the train, they borrowed a GNER mk4 set for that

Sounds like "Off The Rails" with Vince Henderson.

There were 2 series of 10 Episodes each. Series 1 was in 2003, series 2 in 2004, both on The Discovery Channel. I have one on video(!) and one on DVD. Will see if I can upload the episode titles/subjects later.
