There is a riot of messenging going on my facebook feeds regarding a lot of confusion around Bedford station car park.

I have also heard similar confusion at Arlesey.

Simply put, people are paying for tickets online and parking their car. Then getting a fine notice from a different company to which they paid. Do you think it is understandable that folk will assume a car park is a car park and you can park anywhere in it?

I mean, this is the kind of nonsense that exists to get people to pay fines. I've never heard of this before. I am so happy I never use Bedford station car park as the last time I did my car ended up in Cambridge at a pub

How does a train station car park get dissected into portions owned by different companies?

Both car parks at Knutsford station are split. The car park next to the Manchester bound platform has one area for rail users and another for workers in the office block next to the station. While the car park next to the Chester bound platform is split in three. There's a barriered section, which is clearly not for rail users - it's for workers in a different office block. However, the unbarriered section is split between rail users and the business occupying the old ticket office building at the station. The wall outside the station even has a sign on it saying where Network Rail's responsibility starts and finishes!

If the signs are clear and it is understood which ticket is for which zone that's fine. I don't believe the tickets are zoned though so the reliance is on signs. Of course if the car park you need is fullish and another is half empty you will no doubt put your attention to the empty space.

Torquay Station Car Park has colour coded spaces for use by the adjacent Grand Hotel. Luckily, there are useful instructions on the APCOA website:

Torquay Station - Car Park Information

Location:
Rathmore Road Torquay Devon TQ26NU
Entry Procedure:
Please drive into the car park and park within an available space.
Exit Procedure:
Please return to vehicle and follow signs to the car park exit

Not a station car park but there used to be a bit of land in central Birmingham that was split into three - with council-owned parking either side of privately-owned parking. An expensive trip if you used the wrong pay-and-display machine. It came as a result of the bits of land being sold seperately, having had former buildings demolished.

Opposite St.James Hospital in Leeds is exactly the same. Council | Private | Council

A bit obscure, but Deganwy railway station car park has split ownership with two different ticket machines

As you look at Bedford station the car park on the left is council owned and has a sign up I believe. Car park on the right is Thameslink and managed by apcoa. Although in the council side the nearest to the station is managed by apcoa , premium I think
