Plans for the redevelopment of the Brains Brewery site - just south of Cardiff Central Station - show the complete removal of the station car park/drop off zone. So, the north side drop off zone has disappeared for redevelopment and it now looks like the south side will go as well.

The development is being designed to complement Network Rail’s masterplan for the station and the proposed Metro system.

And this could see a role for the bidder chosen to build the next phase of the Metro - with electrification of the Valleys Lines - as well as running the next Wales and Borders rail franchise from October 2019.

If Central Quay is approved SA Brain & Co would need to find a new brewery and head office building site somewhere else in Cardiff.

A number of potential locations are currently being evaluated.

The development cost of Central Quay would run into hundreds of millions of pounds”

If a multi-storey is built it will surely have more spaces overall so that's a good thing no?

Well, yes & no as far as people leaving their cars to catch trains. The present parking is very expensive - all well and good for those on expense accounts. I think that mere ordinary mortals travel in by bus or from local stations to Central for mainline services. This would be a positive as it increases the revenue for public transport whilst at the same time reducing traffic congestion. Unfortunately, for the many Cardiff residents who live near the City Line, services are only every 30 minutes during the day and only hourly in the evening with nothing on Sundays.

They also have to carefully check the fares as it is often cheaper to buy split tickets - even when only using ATW trains. Try Heath Halt to Swansea for example as a through ticket v a split at Central:> Off peak through fare is £16.10 return. Return fare from HHL > CDF = £3.80. Off peak return CDF > SWA = £9.30 (TOTAL = £13.10 with split). So, it is £3 dearer to buy a through ticket! They talk about the Metro and all this through ticketing including buses yet, here we are, with one rail company not coming up with the cheapest through ticket!

Is the through fare also valid on FGW for the CDF-SWA sector whereas the split is ATW only?

A shame to lose the brewery there, its presence gives the area far more character than the dull office blocks proposed!

Brains have only occupied that site since 1999 anyway, as it used to belong to Bass/Hancock's
