Big disruption between Seer Green - Gerrards Cross tonight, train ran into a herd of cows on the up line
5 cows dead, no injuries reported, train damaged and still stuck I think..
Trains were being diverted via Princes Risborough and outbounds terminating at GX.

Wonder if that will disrupt the post 11pm engineering works they are now doing

The unit had a leak and could not build air. Last report I read said 9 cows hit or dead.

Pretty chaotic with several trains coming into Birmingham up to 2 hrs late.

Certainly 5 dead cows. They were giving beefburgers out! :)

The farmer could end up with a large bill if they were redponsible for the fencing/ or gate

Just remember the consequences of one cow being struck on the line by the DBSO at Polmont...

Design changes make a difference. Was it a new 172?

You might all laugh, but if I were a driver, five dead cows would leave me absolutely distraught.

Thinking back to the late 1970's, a class 115 hit trees on the same stretch i believe...

As long as the driver didn't come into physical contact with any cow brain matter... : puke:

Very Mooving story, I must say. I can udderstand how some people were angry at the disruption - but what else can they do? They're huge animals, and can cause huge damage too!

IIRC fences and gates along a railway boundary are the responsibility of the Railway, not the farmer.
