Trains only stop at City Thameslink between 04:45 and 23:00 Monday to Friday, and between 09:00 and 21:00 Saturday, with no service at all on Sundays. Is there a reason for this seemingly arbitrary cessation in service mid-evening, beyond the City being "too quiet" to warrant a service at these times?
Purely from an operational point of view, what happens if a train due to stop at City Thameslink is late enough to push it past this evening curfew? Does it still stop, even if there are trains in front which don't as they are scheduled after this time?
All in all it seems a bit of a strange situation – the cost of staff to open the station until the end of service every day would surely pay for itself in extra footfall? The station is a stone's throw from St Paul's Cathedral and various other attractions in that part of the City, and Sunday is as busy a day for tourists as any other.
