Yes, simply touch in and out

Fares for a standard Adult oyster with no discounts loaded are:
£2.20 Monday to Friday from 0630 to 0930 and from 1600 to 1900.
£1.70 At all other times including public holidays.

Can you use a Oyster card to do Clapham Junction to Waterloo???

Yes you can. Oyster can now be used on all National Rail within the travelcard zones except St Pancras to Stratford International, Hayes & Harlington to Heathrow Airport and Heathrow Express.

How does Oyster PAYG work if you're doing a journey like Clapham Junction - Marylebone via Waterloo? I would hope that there some kind of connectional allowance so that if you touch out at Waterloo and then touch in at Waterloo Underground shortly after, it counts as one journey rather than two.

It counts as one. It works out the cheapest way from Clapham Junction to London Marylebone.

You appear to be describing an OSI. There have been a number of threads discussing this in the past (one in the past few days), but see MikeWh's website for details.

They can be very useful (although they have never been useful to me, only having ever caused me trouble) but also extremely problematic when they link together two otherwise separate journeys.

Does anyone know if the standalone Oyster validators on Clapham Junction platforms 2 and 17 are still functional, since the rollout of Oyster on all National Rail services they may have become surplus to requirements?

Would be handy if they are as it saves going through the barriers (I am split ticketing).

Don't think 17 does, but platform 2 still has its Oyster Reader at the foot of the stairs.
