Hello! I have noticed at Colchester North Station there is a platform 6 (next to platform 3, I think). I have never seen a train there, and I go to the station twice a day and see trains on the other platforms. My only knowledge of its use is when a late night service from Sudbury ends at Colchester. Does anyone know what other trains go there (it is a terminus from London direction)?

First couple of Liverpool Street trains in the morning use it according to RTT (checked for a random Wednesday).

Oh, OK. I never seemed to notice them. I always thought it would have been more logical for them to carry on to Colchester Town, due to its location.

Oh yes, I see it now. Isn't that the only one apart from the last one to Colchester from Sudbury? I know the last train from Sudbury goes to platform 6, so this train is the one from Sudbury. Also, how does it get from Sudbury to Colchester? From what I know, the Gainsborough line is not electrified. I've even seen it in person - there are no overhead lines. That seems to be the only train from Sudbury going out of its line.

If I follow what you've said then the last train ex-Sudbury isn't the same service that forms the first one to Liverpool Street in the morning - I suspect the Sudbury line diesel goes into the depot for the night and the next morning an EMU comes off it for the morning London run.

Oh, OK, that makes sense.

2F01 0443 Colchester - Liverpool Street starts out of '6' also 1F01 the 0512, if there are times of disruption then sometimes the GE Ipswich bound service will terminate in '6' and reform the Up Road working right time.
Sudbury unit rarely goes in P6, it comes down as a passenger from Sudbury, then runs ECS to Ipswich where it's swapped out for another unit, usually off 2R35 the last Felixstowe to Ipswich, this comes up ECS Ipswich to Colchester at 0035. Weekdays a 156, Weekends a 153
